No, I have not been eating Vickie's cooking...

I was wondering - those of you who have driven to Alaska, is it a case of stop and get gas at every available opportunity, or are there more stations than that?

Don't know anything about Alaska, but reminds me of bathrooms in Turkey---very long story, but if you find one, you use it.

Gas stations seemed to be pretty plentiful, just know what your gas milage is and how far it is to the next fairly decent town. They seemed to be further and farther apart in Canada than Alaska.

I usually drive on the top half of the tank, but for this trip I'll fill up on the top third. Beth said gas stations are pretty plentiful, but I need diesel. Not all stations carry it. So just to be safe. I'll also get a copy of the latest mile marker when it's updated this month so I know right where they are!

A lady over on rv.net said her copy of Mile Post yesterday; mine (from Amazon) supposedly won't ship until the end of this month!

Also, fill up in the larger cities, as it is more expensive in remote areas.

Both sis and I were diesel and had no problem whatsoever. That's the least of your worries! Don't forget, there is a station that's pretty plentiful in Canada that gives you a card when you get your first tank and by the time you exit Canada you should have enough on the card to get at least a half tankful on them. Works for gas too. I need to call her and see if she remembers the name of it.

Not only are there gas stations most everyplace, but many of them have dump stations available, and even more have lp available. Was the easiest trip ever for those. I do try to fill up around 1/2 a tank, also - everywhere. That way on the occasion I go longer, I still have lots of miles to go.

I tossed my milepost book - hated it. I wouldn't go without Terri and Mike Church's camping Alaska book, though. Love it. If you decide to get it and go on Amazon, please get the latest version. They update it every couple years and you're best off with the latest.

Well, thanks for your opinions on The Mile Post. It hadn't shipped, so I got to cancel it from Amazon.
I'll wait and see how smoothly THAT goes.
But hey - it's twenty bucks.
That'll buy Beth the margarita(s) I owe her. Can't remember why, but I do.

I'm going to get the one recommended by Beth.

Mitch, I think those Adult Only places are well marked right along the highway. You probably wouldn't even need the guide book to find your way... Now afterwards when your eyes are all glazed over you might need Herschel to guide you back to your rig......
