Thanks for catching all the action. Nan and I now know to disable your camera before we attempt to get into (or especially out of) our kayaks.
The water looks so inviting though, I think I might have jumped in on purpose. I need to find some water around here soon. Those kayaks got pretty dusting being dragged around all miles from Alaska...I think they need to be rinsed off in a lake or river before Ohio frosts over...

Boy can I ever relate to that 'getting in and getting out' of canoes and kayaks! The older these knees get, the harder it is to get in and out without a refreshing dip in the water! Sometimes, when disembarking, I think it would be easier to deliberately roll both boat and body into the water, pretending that it was a plan all along----unless I happen to be in gator waters! Sigh! Thanks for the great pics! Sure does look like a fun time was had by all!

Soos,
I have tipped over getting out in gator water. It's amazing how fast your knees work then!

So, just how much protection do you think that inflatable kayak gives you in gator country anyway?????

Looks like a fun day; but I may have been a little leery of going to an island after the rattle snake incident...

I have given up trying to stand and get out, I just roll over and crawl out. That is why all cameras get turned off.

What a fun day. I love kayaking. I like the sit in, roll out technique.

I was just wondering why she felt the kayak needed to wear the life vest and she didn't??

My kayak is still 1/2 on shore usually when I get it. Then I use the oar to push off. Can sometimes do it without even getting my feet wet. I don't do places where I have to walk out into the water to get in. Nope, nope nope lolol. And my kayak can't remember what daylight (or nightlight) looks like anymore. Some day.

The inflatible did fine in the St. Mary's river where there are some gators but I never took it in the swamp which had lots of gators. Solid kayak for that place. Rattlesnakes on an island? Maybe but that never stopped me before so why start now? And yes, Beth, I do prefer to get in and out like you said but where we were camped it was a bank about 2 feet above the water level so I was trying to get in while standing in 3 feet of water which is harder. I did finally find some steps to stand on but they were wet and slick as snot so I was lucky to get in from there. When I came back I figured I'd be getting wet any way so I rolled out in deep water and swam in pulling the kayak. Hey, I figure if you go out on the water and don't get wet you missed the whole point.

When I have been out on the Silver River near Ocala with Liz I never thought to worry about the 'gators. They were all lazing around on the logs and in the sun...most of them within striking distance of eatable critters like birds, turtles and fish..... I am thinking that in a well balance natural environment...they are not hunting for kayaks and their passengers. That said... I did not offer to take any of the dogs with me.

And just where was Nan and her kayak? Thought sure I'd see it out there too.
