When I drove to OR in 1964, I remember stopping at a campground in the north near some facility that was raising giant sturgeons....I can't remember the name of the place, but I tented there for a few days to recover from the trip and visit the surrounding areas. Cascade something comes to my mind, but I then headed more west toward Portland and the coast.
As for those giant sturgeons, I looked into the holding pool hoping to see some, but, try as I did, I could see nothing. Then I realized that the water level in that giant holding tank was slowy rising and falling. I asked a worker where the fish were, and he said, "Right there!" When I realized that there was one single HUGE fish in that entire tank which was many feet long and wide, I finally caught sight of that huge monster! No wonder my eyes couldn't configure him a first! I was looking for shark sized fish, and the tank was holding a whale-sized fish! I spent a long time staring at that tank! Impressive!

Soos, that was most likely the hatchery at Bonneville Dam. Those fish do get huge!
