Houston, TX - Jul 5 and 6 (meet Paulette)

Let's get together!

Houston, TX - Jul 5 and 6 (meet Paulette)

Postby Birdie » Fri Jun 24, 2011 7:14 pm

Texas Ladies, and surrounding states, Paulette is coming to Texas. So let us have a GTG in the Houston area. She will only be here for a week or so. That means we need to think about when (not much time) and where we would like to welcome her to our Great State.

Unfortunately, it is going to be around the 4th of July. That can be good and that can be bad. So let us make it good and see just what we can do. We need to look at the days of July 5 and 6. That is a Tuesday and Wednesday. Since Houston is a 3-4 hour drive from me here in Schertz, San Antonio, I am going to try to stay over night. Right now I am looking to see who else wants to go over to meet up with Paulette. I know that I am crazy because I will drive in Houston traffic, it is just another road with a few more cars on the road. However, I know we can work out a nice place to stay and visit.

No, I haven't started looking for campgrounds because it might be tough finding spots so close to the Holiday Weekend. Just looking for head count, while I go looking for campgrounds. Will also take campground suggestions.

July 5 and 6 should work for me. I am not sure exactly how long I'll be staying, but probably at the most till the first of the following week. And I don't know where I'm staying yet either. Guess I should make a decision soon and see about making a reservation. Kinda flying by the seat of my pants this time around.

If that's like here, the 5th and 6th should be pretty easy to get reservations. People are taking the long weekend and heading home the 4th and 5th. Hope that holds true there. Hope you find a great place to stay - and that a bunch can make it. Sure wish I could - can't recommend a cg, as I stay at a friends driveway when I get to Houston.

I'd love to BUT will be in the process of moving my stuff into new home AND I DON'T DRIVE IN HOUSTON!!. Birdie knows how I feel about traffic - I mostly stick to the back roads. If all goes well with Carole I have to start thinking about where to go in September.

I'm doing a 6 day rafting and fishing trip on the Salmon River.
Hope those who can make it have a great time!!

Oh, Vicki, I knew you were going up there, but I forgot when. We will miss you in Houston, but have a really great time on your trip. Have loads of funs and bunches of experiences that you can come back and share with us. Maybe we will do a San Antonio area GTG and gab when you get back.

I will probably be at Toledo Bend Lake for the 4th weekend. If you can get something going I can probably swing around that way on my way home. Once I get away from home they have a hard time getting me to come back.

Still not sure where I will be and what I will be doing in that time frame. DS's pickup date for the 6 weeks he gets the kids has moved around like a yoyo the last couple of weeks. First it was mid-June then end of June then 1 Jul then 6 Jul--whatever suits his exwife at that particular moment. It appears that the only thing Texas thinks Dads are for is to pay the bills and then they wonder why the rate of deadbeat Dads is so high. Could be that some of them just gave up on trying to get fair time with their kids and being harrassed by their exwives. Don't mean to get on my soapbox but this has been really stressful for us and the kids that want to be with their Dad. Once he gets the kids, I am planning to travel to Florida as DS will have time off part of every week and wants to go camping/RVing with the kids. I know Florida in July and early August is not when you really want to be there but we are trying to make lemonade with lemons.

So it looks like I probably won't get to meet Paulette.

Colleen, I know what your son is going through. My son has been divorced for 5 years but because he recently remarried the ex-wife has decided that he can't have his son for the summer. He is having to go back to court so that she can be held in contempt but the summer will be over by the time all this gets settled. She seems to have found a lawyer as crazy as she is. They are suing him for $40,000 back child support. They conveniently left out the 2 pages of the divorce decree which set the child support which he has met. I hope the court holds the lawyer in contempt too. My grandson is a very nervous child because of the way his mother treats him. She will tell him one day that he can see his dad and then tell him he can't. He would never know until the last minute if he was going to see his dad or not. We can't send him nice presents because his mother will throw them away. She really is a mental case. She was the one that was arrested for abuse and destroying property. You wonder why the courts can't see this.

Thanks Martha. Sometimes the decree just seems worthless as no one seems to enforce it.

Colleen, we will be on your way to Florida if it works out with good dates. If not, (honk on your way thru - couple of times) I think she will have to come back...we will capture her then too! :o

Martha, we will be looking forward to having you join us. What I thought I'd do is see what campground that Paulette selects and then I'll drive a day early and stay at Stephen F. Austin State Park...under the pecan trees where it is really nice, then drive on in to her campground. She needs to get settled between Spring and League City. That will not be easy. She may want to do a week at Spring and then move a week toward League City. Those two areas are on the opposite sides of the city. Spring is up North off of I-45 and League City is SE but is only about 10 miles off from I-45 South. Tollway might be quickest way. Not sure my tolltag works on those roads will need to check that out. She also plans to make a trip out to Katy...PPL is out there. That is west on I-10. I want to go look at rigs out there, too.

So soon as we get this put in a jello bowl. We will let you know. That will be before you get thru with the fire works I am sure. I plan to travel on the 5th. You can never have too many GTG's of the Sistahs.

It's not going to be real easy to find RV parks near Houston. They don't seem to have too many which is strange. I have a friend in Spring and was searching for a park some time back. I know there is a somewhat pricy one near the Woodlands.

There are several pricey resort type cg's that start at 45. I think that Stephen Austin St Pk west of Katy about 10 miles, is doable for me. Price is around 20 with the Park Pass. I'll have to drive in and that will take a bit of time but I can do that. Galveston Island St Pk had openings earlier today. That is easy to jump on I45 and move around and about the same price. There are several down around the "bay" area in the SE. Several other cgs in and around the area. New Caney in the upper NE area has some nice parks, but they are out...Lake Livingston becomes attractive after a bit of searching.  Bet we find something - we are women!

Okay, I will try to make my decision on a campground in the near future. It's been a bit hectic here what with having to have the AC unit replaced yesterday! Today I will seriously look at the options and make my decision. As soon as I do, I will let you all know. I feel so honored that you all actually want to come meet me! And excited that I get to meet some more "forum friends"!

take your time and make a decision------whenever! It isn't going to make that much difference to us visitors because we will only be there a day or two. You got a week or two! :D So get one you will enjoy. I will drive to Stephen Austin St Pk and then car into where you are and decide whether or not to bring the rig. The weekends are the really busy times. There were slots on the island during the week when i last checked. So looks like some folks are not traveling much - even to the beach.

I am really having fun at the Fleetwood Rally. Okay, thru lunch and back to seminars.
