PA GTG 2011!!! Summer Fun in the East!!

With everyone enjoying the FL GTG either by attending or thru posts and photos here, and others posting plans for spring GTGs....I thought I'd better get some plans and ideas out here so that you all can plan to join in the summer fun in the East....Now, I do have a small committee helping me, Paulette and Barbzee, with details, but the choice of venue and the dates have been left in my hands....So here's what I've come up with.... ;) ( My evening of research I referred to :) )

The Venue: Country Acres Family Campground, Bird-In-Hand, PA....Lancaster County, Amish Country, PA....

To take a look at it, do the following: go to http://www.bird-in-hand.com Click on "Places to stay, then Click on Country Acres Campground.....

Their rates are $41-$45/night...are Good Sam's Club members...full hookups, wifi....and very near the Amish shops, eateries, and buggy rides in Bird-In-Hand....

Now here's where I need you help.....June, July, and August are big vacation times for everyone....and alot of you travel during this time....Weather wise, June is warm, but comfortable nights, July & the first part of August can be an "oven" , then mid to late August thru the middle of Sept. are back to nice warm (70s to low 80s) days with comfortable nights....I don't want to conflict with already made plans that would keep those who would like to attend from being able to....So please give me some idea on when you would like to have this year's PA GTG....

So have a look at the campground and vote for which month time frame would be fit you better.....then we'll take the most popular time frame and go from there.....

Bird-In-Hand is one of our favorite places for Amish shopping, eating, flea market/produce shopping and touring of the Amish culture.....I would be honored to give you the opportunity to see and experience it.... :D

Will let this ride for the voting for a few days...then take a count.... ;)

Hope you all can plan to join us for the "Summer Fun In The East" at the 2011 PA GTG....

I don't know how far into the summer I will be working. Probably through June so don't plan around my schedule. I did have sticker shock when I saw the rate but it got a little better when I checked that "electric and water" only goes for $37. Given being close to the attractions I might be able to do it for a couple of nights but it is rich for my pocket....then again I am not knowledgeable about prices/rates in the east and I am figuring that it costs more, right? Do what works for you. Other than putting money down for the Birthday Cruise :) in September I haven't made any long term plans. Need to earn that money this spring and go from there.... :)

For the first time this summer I will not be traveling on a particular schedule, but going where the wind blows me in the East. I expect, given enough notice, the wind would blow me your way whenever you decide to have it, but like Tina said, my budget would only allow for a couple of nights at those prices. Trying to save $$ this summer for travel to AK in 2012.

That said, i'm really looking forward to attending a PA GTG!

You'll be so close to where I'm working that I might just make day trips over - but if the majority come for only a couple days and I can get off - might try to stay one night also. The sooner a date gets picked, the better my chances of getting a day or two off together to be there :) Just let me know -

And for those interested - here's the direct link: http://www.bird-in-hand.com/index.php/p ... ampground/

None of this is written in stone, folks,as I haven't called yet on this, but yes, the prices around "touristy places" in the summer months run about $40 - $50/night for full hookups in PA. Now I can do some more research and look into other options....just wanted to get a feel for an interest in and a time frame for a PA GTG this year. ;)

On edit: I forgot about the Cruise GTG.... :o ....

Lori, I am interested. I have wanted to go to Beth's cg for a few years so will try and combine the two trips. I spent a couple of days in Amish country last year but you can't see everything in a couple of days. Besides I can eat apple dumplings every day. :)

I might be able to come this year, depending on time. My preference would be September, after kids are back in school so "touristy" places are less crowded, plus it's usually started to cool down.

I would love to come too. But my work schedule is busiest from Late June through Labor Day. So September would be fine by me, or perhaps mid June. And yes, the rates are a bit steep, but I could save my pennies. I too am saving for a trip out West next summer.

Okay, here's what we've come up with for the PA GTG 2011....after much research and help from Beth and Paulette....we are offering 3 choices of location.

We can go to Ferryboat Campsites, near Harrisburg and Hershey, PA. (see PA GTG 2009) they have E/W/S & cable. web site: http://www.ferryboatcampsites.com
$37/night and offer a 10% discount for AAA members....

Or.....Cole Bros. Conewago Campground, Arendtsville, PA....about 8 miles from Gettyburg....(see PA GTG 2010). They have E/W with dump station. No web site, but since I live there in the summer, I can vouch for the place... ;) $23/night....

These 2 places I can get us into in June, July and August.

Beth has kindly called her employer at Lake In Wood and has asked for and got a group discount of $36/night, Sunday thru Thurs. Sept. 11-16....This campground is located near Lancaster, PA.....Beth, if you would be so kind to insert their website for me..... (as requested) http://www.lakeinwoodcampground.com/ Also, a note, this could be those dates or the following week - Sun- Thurs Sept 18-23.

Now what I need you all, that are interested, is to vote for what best suits you & your summer plans in the next couple days so that I can call to make arrangements for sites, etc.....I know folks have busy summers, so the sooner I can book this the better....

Thanks for all your help with this....

Lori
