It was pure pleasure meeting Vickie this morning! She is just as sweet as she seems on the forum....not MEAN at all!!! We met for breakfast at the Cracker Barrel in her home town of Sulpher where she answered all my crazy questions about southern food. But I did forget to ask how Sulpher got it's name.

The highlight of my day was taking the Galveston Ferry (that Vickie recommended). It was too much fun. This was my first ride on a really big boat. We stood on the upper deck and watched the gulls steal fish from the pelicans. Absolutely a blast!

(btw Vickie....we stopped at that little store and that stretch of 87 is still closed)

It was great meeting both of you. I enjoyed the visit, just wish it could have been longer. Sulphur was named because of the sulphur mines nearby.

Herman Frasch, inventor of the "Frasch Method" of mining sulphur, was head of Union Sulphur Company. Its headquarters were at the Sulphur Mines, a company town just west of present-day Sulphur. Herman Frasch Elementary School is named after him.

During the search for oil in Louisiana, near the present-day town of Sulphur, sulfur was found under a layer of 200-300 m of quicksand. All attempts to get to the sulfur with conventional mining shafts ended in disaster. Herman Frasch bought the surrounding area, but the sulfur containing area was not on his property. He patented his Frasch Process in 1890 and made a contract with the owners of the sulfur deposit.

I sure hope Diana checks in, I was wondering how they fared in the trip to San Antonio, they were showing heavy rain and flooding on TV.

They were SAFE, we met at Cracker Barrel!!! I am a good cook, you can always tell if people are um, larger in size, they eat good!

Actually that's the first time I've been in our Cracker Barrel and it's probably been here for around 10 years or so. So THERE!

And where are the pictures from this gtg???? Huh???

Is that like the "tree in the forest" quote. If there is a gtg and there are no pictures...did it really happen?
