Just A Suggestion

Postby SoCalGalcas » Thu Jun 30, 2016 12:53 pm

For those in the Sacramento area....Judyjb and Liz have talked about how much they enjoyed the COE camp outside Fresno at Hidden Cove. Would this be too far to go for a GTG in July? Somewhere in the vicinity of 200 miles from Sacramento. Has hook-ups so we would have air for the heat.

I have to be in Rock Creek by July 31st, but, if you had the GTG during the week of July 25th, I could join you with plenty of time to get to RC for my family GTG.

Throwing this out for your info. lyn

That is a bit far for me and I really can't plan until I hear on a couple of pending appointments. I also will have to find time to take the van over to get new tires. I rarely drive it but age is such that I can't take it far. Would we need advance reservations? How long a get together you intending? I would like to come if I could.

I had reservations to stay at Hidden View CG at Hensley Lake in the middle of May. I selected a site they said was shaded and there was NO shade at all. The sites are well separated and some have electric. There are not a lot of trees and it's mostly bare, dry hills this time of year. I ended up leaving the next day and forfeited my second night because it was just too hot. I didn't want to just sit inside in the A/C. I think it might be too hot there at the end of July and it's a long way to go to sit inside our rigs. Sorry, but thought I should let you know what I experienced. Perhaps Judy and Liz were there when it wasn't so hot.

Thanks for the responses...I'll keep thinking on this.

Does the casino at Lincoln have hook-ups?

I have a proposal. On July 12, I'l be heading home from South Lake Tahoe on 50. I was wondering if you ladies would be interested in just meeting for lunch. For me, I wouldn't want to go more than about 10 miles away from highway 50 since afterwards I'd still have to head back to Dublin, storage, and unload. It would be a chance for us each to be able to put a face to the name and we could still talk RVing and answer questions. We could also discuss a future GTG at a CG suitable for everyone. I realize this is probably too far north for you Lyn. Perhaps Linda (Rufflesgurl) and Diana (mtngal) would be interested.

Think about it and if some or all are interested, perhaps someone who knows the area has a suggestion of a good place to meet and have lunch.

Lyn - Would that be Thunder Valley Casino?? Not familiar with casino camping.

Sandi - what towns will you be passing by along Hwy. 50?

Almost seems like Velda would be more familiar with that area?

If you mean Thunder Valley Casino, I have no dea what they have as we just aren't casino people and have never been there. Sorry. Waiting to hear your route from So Cal so we can figure a place. Meanwhile I'll research Thunder Valley but I have a feeling they don't have anything.

PS ok looked it up. Yes RV parking but no hookups so oondock only 3 night limit. AND it s next to the city landfill and sometimes that is fragrant per reviews I found, which I believe because we can see the casino property when we head to the dump! So I'd say that is out.

Folsom Lake here has a RV area. Called Beales Point if you look it up

Thanks for the replys. I do lots of casino camping because I do not gamble...great resource for inexpensive camping.
Folsom Lake does not have hook ups. Normally I do not need them. However, how warm is it in Folsom? I have never been there.
Yes, Sandi, I would not drive so far just for lunch. Keep the suggestions coming, we will get there yet!
Casino at Lincoln does sound "stinky".
What about the California State Fair Grounds?

At this time of year it's very warm at Folsom, it's just maybe 8 miles from me and we have had 100 degrees and up for past week. And will be hot mostly until end of September or early October!

Thanks Velda for all your research - good job. I have only RV stayed at a casino one time and that was in Idaho I think so I'm not a casino camper either and rarely frequent casinos. Seems like we stayed in a RV park in Loomis a few years ago.

Lyn, will you be on your way to Thomas Canyon to meet Sandi and Diana in August?

Linda, yes there is a small private RV park in Loomis, not far off I-80. We have used there dump for tanks for about $7 before we learned by driving about same distance to Folsom we could do that free with senior pass. It's a nice little park as far as I could see. QuiTe a few semi permanent residents it looked like but ok for an over night.

Yes I will be meeting up with Sandi and Diana. The dates worked for me to go there after I leave Rock Creek. I will be at Rock Creek for two weeks if anyone wants to join me there. There are always sites where no reservation is required.

Camping in 100* heat is no fun for a GTG. As Sandi said, we couldn't sit outside and visit which is the purpose of a GTG. So lets delay for a couple of months.
