HaHa, Liz got the "preferred" spot! I hope to get site # 11 again, but will need to find some money before I can do it. Please save that spot for me, y'all! Still have property taxes to pay down here and have no clue where I will find the moola to pay them at this point. Sigh!

All the spots at this SP are good ones. Any of the sites in the same loop are close the even the next loop is walking distance and shares the same bath house. I really love this SP and the weather in October should be really nice. Karen, are you planning on making donuts? :D

Linann, well on the donuts lets see if you all like them in March and if you do then of course I will make them. I am so glad all these campouts are happening. I do not think since I have been back to work (working on retirement no 2) I have never taken a week off usually just a day or two. Do any of you have kayaks? Can you kayak there? KarenS

LOLOL - there is lots of kayaking done there - and many of the women have kayaks. Forgive me for laughing, but it hit my funny bone - lots of pics of people kayaking and the alligators around, too.

I second the positive response regarding the kayaking. The Silver Springs/River is one of the most beautiful to kayak...float down. Yes, there are gators but they are sunning themselves up on the banks! With the state of FL taking over the headwaters and renting out kayaks. The best is even better!

Karen,

There are two ways to kayak at Silver Springs -- the longer way and the easiest way. The easiest way is to drive over to the old Silver Springs attraction, which is now part of the state park. The park rents canoes and kayaks ($20 for one person and $25 for two people) or launch your own for a fee. You can then kayak in the same area as the glass bottom boats. Rentals have to be returned to the same place as where they were rented. It was fun and I didn't see any alligators the day we went. If you have your own kayak, you can keep going and take out at another spot and walk 3/4 miles to the campground area. Liz did that and posted lots of alligator photos -- granddaddy alligators!!!

Ok, I do not own a kayak and have only been one time with a friend Nan, and since I do not really (really do not) want to be gator bait, I may have to pass on this, but it sounded like a good idea at the time haha. KarenS

Karen, kayaking is never a prerequisite Some will, some won't. I didn't kayak there at a previous gtg because I was too lazy to haul my kayak to the entrance point lol.

Although I probably won't be camping with all of you, this is so close to my area that it could easily become a day trip to meet all of you ! I will mark the calendar !! :P
