FYI--GTG--in Florida

If anyone is near Cedar Key, I attended a GTG, several years ago at a private campground there. Camp owner was very nice. Campground was nice as it had NO big amenities like swim pool, rec room etc. Then it was $10/noc. Had electricity as we watched a Super Bowl on a TV set up outdoor. Some went for a bike ride, some went into town, museum very interesting, some ate out...good food. Of course, I cannot remember the name of the cmpgnd. Does anyone live near there to explore? lyn

Rvparkreviews.com show 5 campgrounds listed in the area, maybe one of these is the one you remember?

I don't know what CG it was for the GTG you're talking about.....But, we've stayed at Rainbow Country CG....5 miles from Cedar Key....rustic and reasonably priced... ;) with full hookups...

Winter is peak season and some of the parks are already booked or have limited sites left in January.

HILLSBOROUGH RIVER STATE PARK, where we stayed last year, only has 39 sites available for the week beginning 1/25/14 (none are available the week of 1/18/14). Hillsborough is booking FAST because the FL Supershow in Tampa is 1/14/14 - 1/19/14. Some of the state parks have smaller sites, 20 feet or less, that may not work for everyone who came to last year's GTG.

Another park to consider is MANATEE SPRINGS STATE PARK (near Chiefland - SW of Gainesville)
Rate: $20 per night/$140 per week (three campsite loops with large sites - some pull throughs)
61 RV appropriate sites - 46 sites available for 7 days beginning 1/18/14
First magnitude spring producing 100 million gallons of water per day
Warm water attracts West Indian Manatees that will be in the spring during the winter months
Canoeing and kayaking year round down the Suwanee River and 8.5 miles nature trails
The Magnolia Loop #1 closes 2/1/14 for repairs (will probably be closed one year)

Sorry for the long post, but that hopefully gives us the info we need to make a decision and start booking sites. Everything is booking earlier this year.

Recommend Manatee Springs because it has enough large sites available and things to do, plus it is somewhere new. However, any of them are OK. We just need to decide!

I won't be around in January, but I just made reservations at Silver River State Park from October 27 to November 8th. It's a lovely time of year in Florida, and a beautiful time to kayak the Silver River in case anyone's around and wants to join me for a few days. I do have a few dr. appts. to go to during that time, but not every day.

I'll go along with any place, but would really love to not have it too far north as I love to swim. Linda and Sandy know the most about the parks, I believe. The Manatee Springs Park looks great, other than being quite far north. But for those loving canoeing and kayaking, it would be great. As I said, I have no desire to organize the GTG this year, but I will sign up as soon as someone decides on the place. After I am signed up for a site, I will be happy to help with whatever else needs doing. :)

How many are interested in a Florida GTG this January? So far, only 3 have indicated interest. If it will be a small group, there are more options.
