Brenham, TX Nov 18, 19 and 20

Let's get together!

Brenham, TX Nov 18, 19 and 20

Postby retiredhappy » Sat Sep 03, 2011 10:44 am

The Women RV is having a GTG in Brenham, TX on November 18, 19 and 20 and anyone interested is invited to come. It at the Dixieland RV Park (http://www.dixielandrvpark.com) 979-278=3805, $22 a nite per rig for two people. Just tell them you're with the Pink Flamingo group when you call for reservations.

What is there to do while we are there?

"The weekend we flock Brenham's Heritage Belles, in period dress, guide guests through historic Brenham homes decorated for the holidays. The Guiddings-Stone Mansion will house dealers displaying an array of unusual items for sale. (Holiday Homes Tour and Trunk Show)

This same weekend Ellison's, a local wholesale nursery known for its poinsettia production, is having its annual celebration of this flower. Plant seminars, entertainment, food, tours of the greenhouses and a poinsettia Christmas tree await our inspection.

There are 3 wineries

A restored historic cotton gin and museum tours.

Washington on the Brazos State Park and historical museum. Texas declaration of Independence was written and signed at this site shortly after the fall of the Alamo. Under the leadership of Sam Houston, 59 men agreed to declare Texas a free, sovereign, and independent republic and wrote a constitution. This is the Birthplace of Texas.

Brenham is home of Blue Bell Creamery and there are tours twice daily Monday -Friday. Anyone wanting to tour will need to be at the creamery by 2:15 pm on Friday afternoon. Please let Shirley know if you are interested as we will need to advise the creamery if there are more than 10 of us going.

Just as a note of interest- have you noticed the bottles of Brianna’s gourmet salad dressing near the lettuce display in the refrigerator case at the HEB? It's made in Brenham too!

Downtown Brenham is door to door quaint shops....most of the antique variety. There is an old fashioned bakery, museum, an imported coffee company, and a place called Almost Heaven where the lady at the Visitor Center assures us they sell fabulous PIE.

Lake Somerville has hiking trails and may have some water in it if we are lucky.

If this isn't enough to keep you busy there are small gem-like towns of less than 200 residents with home cooked meals and more antique shops all over this county and within 15 miles of Dixieland RV Park."

I'm bringing Carole who will have completed (hopefully) all her chemo treatments and is really looking forward to this trip.

Dang, wish I could come. For an informative tour, the Blue Bell ice cream tour beat the other 2 I've been on, including Ben & Jerry's.

Have fun and I'll be with you in spirit.

I think I will be able to make the trip. Having company Thanksgiving week and she may come early. So soon as i know about that I'll make my reservations.

By the way I toured the BB creamery last Thursday and it was very interesting and the tour did include a large scoop of ice cream of your choice. Wasn't able to do the winery(s) or other goody places. Did eat at Must Be Heaven. Didn't do the pie because I knew I would be doing ice cream. I did have quiche and fresh fruit. Absolutely the fluffiest fresh quiche I have ever had. It will be worthy of a second visit for me.

This should be a fun "flocking". I really hope I can make it.

Oh, Carolyn, you are getting so into this retirement frame of mind. One day you are going to wake up and scream, ENOUGH, ENOUGH, I AM OUTTA HERE!!!!!! and you will be all prepped and ready to 5er around the country.

Be sure to let Paula at Dixieland know if you have to have 50 amp service or if you can get by on 30 amp. They have lots of 30 not so many 50's. It is nicely setup for a GTG as some of the sites are 'side-by-side'. Meaning one heads in one heads out but then the next door neighbor over from you is right there sharing your space....just like we like it! I am planning on going over early to do some site seeing that I didn't get done this time through.

Can you tell me if there are still spots available? I would love to be there and meet you all, but unsure if I can be there in time. Can I reserve at the last minute? I will probably know by mid-October, will that be too late? Sounds like fun! I hope I can make it... Will keep you updated. Jacque :)
