Day #5 in KS

Let's get together!

Day #5 in KS

Postby bluepinecones » Sat Sep 20, 2014 9:54 pm

Several of us went back to town Friday morning to visit a museum and buy the remaining Ladies Night Out tee shirts. There is no longer anyone in Council Grove that does not know we are at the campground. Some of the people we had meet on earlier trips into town now stop us on the street to say hello and thank us for visiting. Now that is friendly.

Sorry, in the interest of time on iffy Internet, you are not going to get a history lesson, just a few photos. After numerous treaties continued to shrink the once vast land of the Kaw and sickness decimated their numbers, only a little more than 200 were left when the tribe was relocated to OK. A little over a century later, the Kew have started buying back land in and around Council grove with the intent to develop parks in memory of those who did not survive and to preserve more of their past on the lands once occupied by their forefathers.

It was home coming for the high school and we were there for the parade down Main St. Looked as if the whole town was there and likely every middle and high school age child in parade. Note the bands did not have uniforms. Still I cannot remember last time I so saw so many clean cut, polite young people.

Along the way, we found an old fashion soda fountain - it was an ice cream something or other for lunch

Around 5:00 food and wine started showing up at Catherine's site.

Before we started, got a kind neighbor to come take a group photo. Will try names but know will miss some - ladies please correct whatever I mess up here

Names are slightly out of order. First (in the back row) is Sandi. First in front row is Sharon. Following in that order is then Birdie (back) and Anita (front). I believe the rest are right. I don't know the two you have questions by so can't help there.

Thanks Beth. I know some of the ladies and so was really confused with the ones I did not know.

Sarah, thank you so much for taking us along with all the fun you all are having. I sure enjoy seeing the ladies I know in your pictures and getting to know a little bit the ones I have not met.

What a great turn out! I have a feeling the Kansas gtg will be a repeat in years to come.

Thanks for the pics & names Sarah. Fun looking group! Did Kathy (GingerK) and her friend Carrie not make it? I thought they left on Friday. Hope they are OK - or maybe they just went straight to Branson.

Speaking of FL GTG, has anyone thought of a place to have it this year? Should start planning that pretty soon...

Love the shirts! Need a group photo of all the dogs! Any cats there?
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Yes Cathy and Carrie arrived but were too tired to come to dinner after a 16 hour drive. Think I got a photo of them in the Saturday set.

Someone did a count but I don't remember the numbers… think something like 19 of us, 23 dogs and 2 cats. Don't hold me to those exact numbers.

Haven't seen anything about a FL gtg for 2015.

Barb and Kat are Burningdaylight from OK. Both they and Carrie and Kathy had to leave this morning.

Bunch of ladies went kayaking this AM. Good thing as it started little caps on the north end quite awhile ago. Has been great weather except for the boomer last evening. Have dryed out the awning and slide covers, mopped, loaded the Kayoo and ready for a samich! Still have the vacuum to complete. Then most of house work complete for the week.

I do believe this should be an annual thing here.
