Recommendations wanted for spot near Charleston, WV

Hello, all ;-)

Been working on our itinerary for our trip, and I need a spot to overnight near Charleston, WV. I found one state park near there that had a campground, however, they said that it was recommended for rigs 26' and under---I'm afraid that it will be really tight...

Would it be possible/safe to boondock in a parking lot? I looked up the local Walmart, and they don't allow it, however the KMart, and I think Target do.

Has anyone been in this area? Thoughts?

here's a link to find all sorts of camping areas
http://www.rvthereyet.cc/
had some other links too but seem to have lost them or
they didn't import from my IE to my foxfire.
Also keep in mind that many of the casino's throughout America
will welcome your overnight parking cause they expect you
to put some pennies in the slots or even enjoy a meal in one
of their many restaurants.

Kim,

I did a search on my Streets & Trips - 25 miles around Charleston, WV. Only 2 campgrounds showed up - Kanawha State Forest and Rippling Waters Church of God Campground. Sparse choices, eh?

I'm going to look on my Trailer Life Directory program now and see what they show. Back in a flash...

Here are the results from Trailer Life Directory...the only other one in the area is way up north on Interstate 77.

Thanks, guys. I saved those links in my trip file for future reference---I didn't have those links, and I'm sure they'll continue to come in handy!

Mitch, I hadn't seen that last campground that you posted---didn't come up on any of the searches. Defiantely slim pickins! I'm a little nervous about the "out in the middle of nowhere" feel this leg of the trip seems to be. Glad it's only one night!

Haha - and I look for all the out in the middle of nowhere places.

Usually if Walmart won't let you overnight, it means it's a city ordinance - so be careful about thinking you can in another lot in the same city. But if you called and you can - that's what I'd do for the one night.

Lol...perhaps when I get a few miles under my belt and get braver, I'll look for the middle of nowhere places, too

Didn't realize that. I would defiantely call first. I was just going off of online information...not from the "horses mouth" so to speak. Thanks.

Check out Louisa, Kentucky. It is about 20 miles south of I-64 but I don't know how far into KY from WV. the campground is Creekside Cabins & RV Park, 5461 Hwy 3 North, Louisa, KY. Rates $22-24 up 30' with full hook up. Passport America rate is $11 and 12. I didn't find anything in Ohio. They are all in that corner area. The other option is to stop early. Have a great trip and remember you should make your plans in jello so that if you see something interesting you can stop and look around.
