Has anyone ever been to Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas?
I think it sounds like a cool place to explore and maybe find a HUGE diamond!

I have not; however, always have wanted to! In fact, everytime I watch a treasure series on the Travel Channel, I'm ready to hunt for treasure!!

How's life in the desert? Settling in?

I was there in October. It's fun to dig for the big diamond, but I didn't find one. I thought I had but it ended up being crystal.

I wanted to stay at the RV park but it's closed until next year. They are doing upgrades and repairs.

I was there the end of last week. First time there. We didn't dig because it was after that horrible rain and wind that went up through Arkansas and was quite muddy.

I wanna go there! I have heard of ppl finding huge diamonds there as late as the early 2000's

And after a rain,, would be a great time, but i also , would wait til it dried up!

I think these type places would be fun but I wonder how many real gems I'd pass over because I'd expect them to look like the polished ones at the jewelry store!

Nope... the raw diamonds DO NOT look like the ones from the jewelry store....

One of the things I really want to do someday is to go digging for minerals (gold and copper) and gems around the country. There was a series on the Travel Channel a year or two ago that explored all the different places to do that and I was so intrigued! Even if I didn't strike it big, it would still be fun trying!

I checked the website today, it says the campground is closed for renovations until sometime in the spring.
