Batteries

Batteries

Postby Redetotry » Sun Dec 02, 2012 6:07 pm

I think both of my house batteries have lost their charge. So, if I drive it around will they charge or are they toast? Also, if I have to replace them I want the sealed ones so I don't have to check them. Are there any reasons other than cost to get the other kind?

If you drive around and they don't charge, then they might be toast. By all means get the sealed, no maintenance batteries. You won't regret it. They will last much longer than the other and will be well worth the initial extra cost.

First thing I did was to replace the coach battery with a sealed one.

I'm not one who would get the sealed - but some, like Liz, love them. However, if you let them drain, like these just did - you could have toast for much more expensive batteries. Go into an AutoZone or similar store and ask them to check your batteries. If need be, they will charge them, also. But they can tell if they are good after charging (most of the time) or if they need to be replaced. If they have completely drained, they might take a charge and be good - but they won't hold charges as long, usually, after that. That doesn't necessarily mean replace them - especially if you don't use your rig often, but if the charge lasts less and less time, then, yep, replace. If you let anyone else take out or replace your batteries, please take a picture of the connections first. I've seen new batteries become toast, or things popping inside rigs, because someone hooks up the batteries incorrectly.

I wanted to get the sealed batteries the last time I replaced mine but they were too tall for the space.

Take pictures like Beth said. I was having problems with my batteries boiling dry and an RV shop said they were connected wrong.
