Thinking of signing up for this .
Thought some others might be interested too. It is right after the TN gtg and only a relatively short distance from between Crossville and Bowling Green.

Hi Sarah,
I looked over the program... there is a huge amount of information there... my fear would be information over load... where you would not retain enough of the material.. I have never gone to an RV training seminar...
The cost is not bad at all...

I highly recommend if you can go to do so. Never been to one of theirs, but love going to these types of seminars. Obviously you'd have to pick the few seminars that would suit you best - and then get all you can from them. And remember, sometimes they give all good information, and sometimes you have to take some things with a grain of salt. I remember going to a supposedly informative seminar on traveling to AK (before I had ever done so) and got told it's too dangerous to travel unless in a caravan - and if you want to see animals, you have to get up and travel at 6 am. Well, guess what, a caravan company was sponsoring this - and the guy doing the seminar is a person who likes to start out with daybreak. Needless to say - animals were around all times of day and night - and obviously it's not necessary to travel in a caravan.

I'd love to be there and ask some questions of Blue Ox. Never attended any of their seminars, as when I was places they were at, I didn't intend to tow. Now I tow, have blue ox, and have questions :)

That said - they either have old information or Phil has been rehired by Amazon - when I was in Campbellsville, they parted ways and I don't think it was too amicable.

I would highly recommend this to anyone too. It's a good foundation.

I convinced myself I need to attend the classes so sent in my registration today. In addition to the lectures, I also wanted the driving course and the weigh in so sent an inquiry about them (web page doesn't indicate whether or not they cost extra). The short answer is YES they do cost more. Here's the reply:
Thank you for your registration.
The Behind-the-Wheel class is an additional $250.00 per person, if you are
interested please call or email as we need to get you on the schedule.
Weighing is offered for a fee of $60.00 and can be taken care of when you
arrive at the conference.

So if you want everything here's how it stacks up:
Conference Classes = $225.00
Driving Class = $250.00
Weigh Vehicle = $ 60.00
Total =$635.00 [/color]

Sarah,
I presume the weighing is for the RV and not you. You can stop at any truck stop that has scales and for around $9 they will weigh you. We did it one summer.

The only thing I've actually signed up for so far is the conference classes tho I think I will also take the driving class.
While the weigh in is less expensive than my doctor charges, it was the RV not me I was thinking of for the weigh in.
Can you get wheel weights at the truck stops or just overall weight?
I don't own a recorder but am beginning to think it might be a good investment.

Sarah, you should be able to get axle weights with no problem. The scales are split to maximize getting the wheels in/on the right place. It might be helpful if you have someone go with you if you can. If you go into the truck stop to the fuel desk and explain what you are doing if the people in there are the good sorts they will be glad to help you.

There are intercoms on posts at the scale itself. Just maybe you might find a trucker to help also.

I would be interested in knowing if the truck scales give wheel weights also. The break down that you get from the RV guys is quite detailed. It tell poundage front and back and also left wheel and right. Mine was within 75 pounds...left to right over both front and back axles. :) Herschel and I discussed whether he needed to move or not......

The truck weigh stations I frequent give only the overall weight. One said they 'could' maybe do "front" then "back" weights, but no guarantees on accuracy. So I skipped that one. Whole hog was better than bad parts of the hog. Bunkie would hate that I called him a hog. It served me well for that time. Would have preferred the axle and individual wheel weights. Never got that with Bunkie. They do that at the Escapees Center, but only when someone is qualified to operate it is there. Wasn't happening this summer.

But you would need to have your 'stuff' in it before you weighed it. No need to weigh it empty...well maybe but not sure because normally, we hoomans don't calculate weight of our 'stuff' very well. I do need to have Suite Pea weighed as she is about in final form....few more things out and probably a few things in ;) .

Research, research, learn, learn, it is all part of the new life. You will only need the recorder if you will have tape to put in it :o , then will replay the tapes  .

You Go Girl!!! Time is passing and you have to be getting even more excited. Have you told Nicky yet that he is going to be a traveling man!

I beg to differ, Birdie. I know a certain short Dufus that actually knows the weight of each dinner plate! But then again, she's not normal.

Good for you. I highly recommend the driving course. You will have a better feeling about it and it's worth the extra $$. In 2008 the cost for driving was $225 so it hasn't gone up that much. As Birdie said, do get weighed until you are full of what you are going to be carrying. Really won't do that much good and you can get a pretty good idea at the scales but the do not give you a wheel to wheel.

It's getting closer.

It looks like gas prices are going to impact with my travel plans even when not by my choice.

Got a call from the company that has been hosting this for many years saying that for the first time ever, they were canceling the conference due to so many cancellations over the past 3 weeks; most people citing gas prices as reason. I am very disappointed as I was counting heavily on the classes, including driving to help me gain more confidence with my first RV.

On the brighter side, they will be sending full refund of fees. I'm thinking that $$$$ might go toward a back up camera for Magic.
