Those of you that have a microwave/convection oven...
What brand and size do you have?
Biggest question- do you like it? Is it worth the $$$.

I'm thinking of getting fancy in my new rig!

Thanks girls

Can't tell you about brand (trailer's way over yonder (that's a Southern term), and it's cold and grass it wet), but in the overall cost, the additional $$ for the convection was minimal, and it has been worth it. Great for biscuits, or frozen dinners, or a frozen pizza. I've actually used it quite a bit. I would buy it again.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Now, if you REALLY want me to traipse way over THERE, I will. :)

Mine doesn't get good reviews - but it was made for rv's and fit in the spot my micro was before. Just remember, the rv convection/microwaves aren't as good as home ones. It's a Sylvania. Bad reviews or not I did spend too much on it - trusting the rv people who sold/installed it back then - but I am glad I did it and have never used my rv oven since. I even have figured out a way to toast bread in it. Also not getting good reviews are the half-time micro/convection ovens - and I wish that's what I had. Hopefully Liz will pop in about that. Hers seems to cook so fast - I would have gone with that if I'd had her info on it at the time. Today there are a lot more choices for the size spot I have than there seemed to be a few years ago when I did this.

As I said, I'd do it again - even if it doesn't get used when I boondock :)

I love my Half-Time oven. If it ever quits, I'll replace it with another one. There were some problems with earlier models, but hopefully they have all the bugs out now. Mine reduces cooking time by 50%. They have a new model that reduces cooking time by 75%. How fast can you go?

Walmart sells a countertop model online for $169 http://www.walmart.com/ip/Half-Time-Convection-Microwave-Oven-Black/6372382

My rig came with a Sharp Grill 2 Convection which combines convection and microwave. I had never used a convection oven before but really like it now. If I am cooking something that is already programmed, I just push the button. If I am cooking something not listed, like a pie, then I have to watch it. I read that I should reduce the oven temp by 25 degrees and/or the cooking time by 25%. It does take some experimentation.

Don't get the Conture from our buddies. I don't like it at all....not like I think it should be working.

See - I KNEW being lazy would pay off.
I didn't have to walk to my trailer at all.
THAT'S the one I have!
Thanks, Joan!!
Saved me from freezing my buns off and soaking my feet (in the wet grass)...

Says it weighs 45 lbs., that's considerably heavier that a microwave. Wonder what kind of modification it takes to switch one out in an RV?

On first reading this I thought you wrote "I wonder what kind of medication..." If I had to do it, it would require medication - tranquilizers!
