Hitch Ball Question

..

I have cut an "X" in a tennis ball to fit over my hitch ball. There is a little rust on the ball. Can I (should I) remove the rust with sandpaper prior to applying fresh grease and the tennis ball (thank you, Sarah...) ? ? ? Or will sandpaper damage the ball somehow?

I'd leave it alone, Mitch. There are all sorts of thoughts on what to do with your hitch/ball set-up. First, if your hitch is removable I'd take it off & store it inside where it's not exposed to weather all the time. And if the "cup" part of the trailer's hitch is well greased then the next time you hook the two up you should be fine. A little rust isn't going to hurt anything.

If the rust is really bothering you WD40 will remove it. Just spray it on and wipe it off. It will leave a protective coating on the metal too.
