Some of you know I switched to AARP's Hartford insurance for my rv a few months ago. They've come a long way and now have full-timer's insurance (very important for those of us who full-time!) and now they've even added a free ERS program for rv's to the policy. (I got the info on this with my renewal notice). I intend to read the details closely but think I won't need to continue adding Good Sam's or Coachnet's ERS. This one won't (I don't think) do things like send out someone free if I run out of gas - but truthfully, I don't think I should ever do that! But it apears they will do the things I do take out ERS insurance for. So my insurance costs went down AND I can drop the extra policy which means even more added savings. So far I like

I'm not advocating everyone change - but if you are looking, I'd take a look here. (I still think the company I was using was excellent also, but wanted the car and rv both with the same company).

Beth, be sure and read your policy carefully. I called AARP for a quote when I bought my RV and wish I had called back to speak to another agent. The one I talked to said they did not offer roadside assistance. I told her I had read that they did, she checked & assured me they did not. During the conversation she said again, no roadside...when she asked if I wanted the policy I said no, I'm disappointed there is no roadside assistance. She said well, let me check again, came back to say OH yes, we do offer it, that has just been added....I couldn't help but wonder if they think if they don't tell people they won't read the policy and use it or if she was just new at her job. I ended up going with Progressive which was only about $15. more but through my local insurance place.

We had AARP insurance when the big storm hit here, they were of very little help when I called sort of in shock about all the damage everywhere. They said unless something fell on my house or any outbuildings we were responsible for the tree removal and that the food loss would come under my $1,000. deductible. A few days later I went over my policy and noted we had something called the Sentinel Package, sort of an extra thing. Come to find out, the loss of all the food in my freezers and refrigerator WAS covered as was the damage to the fence. So read and know what you have coverage for if you have an issue.

I've had good luck with the AARP/Hartford insurance, bad luck with Progressive. Differences are what make the world go around

The roadside assistance is better than what Progressive offers you - at least the one Progressive offered me when I read it a few months ago - as it would NOT tow a MH if necessary - this one is brand new for RV's - as is the full-time coverage. I know where of I speak before I posted this. So far this is the first insurance company with specific RV roadside assistance that I know of - where I can say I don't need to purchase one of the other specific ones (Coachnet or Good Sam) and AAA is NOT an RV road-side assistance program, either. AARP and Hartford were being honest that the roadside assistance you got wouldn't handle the rv. So, yes, read carefully the policy you do have with any insurance companies roadside assistance on the rv. They are all getting better about it - but very few really cover what needs to be covered - why we all have had to purchase separately for those.

The program being offered is ONLY Hartford through AARP - and brand new, so probably not all the people are aware of exactly what it can do When I added my full-timers coverage with them, the people on the phone had to get out the books, as that is new - and I KNEW I needed coverage differently than someone with a homeowners policy that covers belongings, etc.

I have progressive for my rv and they towed it to freight liner facility for me when I had the bearing problem. No cost to me.
