Equal-i-zer W/D with SC - bent L pin??

Equal-i-zer W/D with SC - bent L pin??

Postby shnz821 » Sat Feb 26, 2011 9:00 am

Hi All! Does anyone on here have alot of experience with the Equal-i-zer WD hitch with sway control? I had this installed on my new trailer yesterday, and after towing to the storage yard and disconnecting everything, I found I had a hard time getting the L pin (the L shaped bracket that holds the spring arm in place) out on one side, and once I did, noticed that it appears to be bent. Is this due to faulty installation? Poor manufacturing? or just a hazard of wear and tear?? I should mention that I only drove straight down the highway from the dealership to the storage place, making normal right and left hand turns (no tight corners), and my spot in the storage lot is a pull-through. So I did not do any backing up or other weird manuvers that could have caused this. Any suggestions or tips?

You mean it's just slightly out of square, right? I had the same problem - scared the heck out of me. I emailed the manufacturer, with a photo, and they said that was just fine - no worries.

Crank it up a little higher and the pins should come out just fine. I've never even had to use that metal black lever that came with the hitch.

Thanks for the reassurance! I just took a look at it again in the daylight (very helpful!) this morning and it looks like it'll still go into the hole properly. Just scared me last night, as I was dealing with a new (only to me perhaps?) couple latch that kept me guessing for quite some time when I got it to the storage lot. Apparently this type of coupler latch clicks down and then slides back towards the trailer, instead of the type I'm used to that pops up straight to release the ball. Felt really stupid when my friend helped me figure that one out.
Anyway, I think the L pin will be ok. Thanks again for the response!
