lengthening a short queen sized bed

I have a question about the possibility of extending the length of a short queen sized bed. My husband is 6'2" and I fear that the bed will be uncomfortably short for him ( Of course, we will find out for sure when we take it out in April ). Given that this is the case, does anyone know of a way to extend the length of the bed by using foam or some other material between the head of the bed and the camper wall (there is room between the foot of the bed and the wall to move it down) ?

In my rig the mattress sort of hangs over the end of the bed already. If you're going to sit on the end of the bed you need to be careful not to slide off. My mattress also lifts for the storage under the bed. If you were going to add a longer mattress you probably add a longer piece of plywood under the mattress.

Thanks Karen....I'll keep that in mind. Don't know if we will even have to address this issue, but I was just sort of being proactive. (maybe a bit neurotic, as I tend to be sometimes). Hope you have a great weekend!

I had to come up with a different configuration of sleeping arrangements to accommodate George. What I ended up doing was using some of those foam pool noodle things and covering them with body pillows. Works out great for us. (Luckily, G isn't 6'2"! He's a short little guy!)

A friend of mine attached a ledge on hinges at the end of the bed. At night they lift up the ledge, pull the mattress down and put in two foam pieces at the top. They tried putting the foam pieces at the foot of the bed but always kicked them off at night. I suggested they put velcro strips on both the foam and ledge. Easier than moving the mattress. But they like it the way it is. They cover the foam with pillow cases. We had a queen short in our Class C and tGM's feet just hung over a little. carold

Glad to find this thread. We have the same question in our minds. I'm 5'11" and Randy is 6'4". We figured we'd see what happens without doing anything and then start with the solutions. I like the ledge on hinges idea!

Since I'm 5'8" and DH is 6'2", we looked at the length of the beds when we were looking for our 5th wheel. A lot of the sales people will really gloss over the bed length and just tell people it's a queen. Putting foam at the head of the bed sounds like a good solution if you have the room to extend. Be sure to use firm foam. I would want to be able to leave it like that so I didn't have to remake the bed every night. We also found out that all dinettes aren't created equal either. Some make a pretty short bed if you plan on using it. Our Jayco 299RLS is longer there too. Probably wouldn't make a difference to everyone but something to think of if you are shopping.

Mitch, do you remember how many foam noodles you bought? Then you put them between the head of the bed and the wall and actually put them in body size pillow cases? 16 days till we pick up the camper in Ohio, so excited. I know realistically, we are not going to have all we need in some areas and have too much in other areas, but it's a learning curve for sure. I wish I could take all of you gals with us on our first trip, but I have faith that there will be people at the CG to help us.

Pookie, I think I bought 6 noodles. I put them at the side of the mattress (against the front wall) so George would have to sleep up against the curve of that front wall. The problem I sometimes have is that the 2 noodles on the outside push the one in the middle up, so it forms a pyramid. I think the solution will be to lash the noodles, laying flat, to a very, very thin piece of board. I liked the noodles as a solution because they are so lightweight, and if G gets out of hand, I can smack him with one of them...
