Emergency Road Service

I know we've covered this before but I would like to know who you all use; Good Sam, Coach Net or ???,

My Good Sam expires next month and after checking I found it would cost me $113 to renew whereas its only $80 for a new subscriber. That irritated the he** out of me.

Also debating renewing my GS membership. Yes, it gives me 10% off on camping but so does AARP. Any thoughts?

Yeah, every year I cuss that new member cheaper rate. But I did call and ask for a discounted rate for renewing - I knew they had mailed me something for one and they gave me $10 off. Big deal, I know. But it is a service I want. Next time, before I renew, I'll check the cost for Coachnet - but the Good Sam ERS and Coachnet are, so far, the only 2 road services I'd have with my rv.

As for the GS membership - not sure that I've needed it either, but seem to keep renewing anyway. I have enjoyed going to the rallies I've gone to - and I do read the monthly magazine online to look for info I'm interested in - but I certainly could understand not doing that one.

I just joined Coach Net this past month, so I have no experience with them other than they were prompt with mailing me the cards.

Coach Net...have not actually ever needed them to come out to my site. HAve called and asked then for technical help and then was able to problem solve the issues myself (or regarding my battery in TN, with Carolyn's help :D ) I did appreciate that the first question out of their mouth has always been, "Are you in a safe place? Are you and your rigs safe?"

I seldom post, (as I don't have much to add of interest), however, I had to respond to this. I have always had Good Sam Emergency Service & paid the yearly fee. I was not happy with the discount given to new members, but grumbled & still renewed. Renewed again this year, just before going to the Born Free Rally that met in Barstow NV. 26 coaches & we were bound towards Las Vegas & then up through Mesquite, St. George, Hurricane, etc., & touring Zion. I was having some serious issues with the itinerary & seriously considered leaving the tour & turning around....However, knowing I had the GSEM service, I thought I'd stick it out. It was a very tiring schedule & by the time we got around the Northern side of the Grand Canyon we started hitting bad weather. When we got to the park at the Southern side, (which had no hook-ups) we were having winds up to 60 MPH. Dirt & sand & brush etc., were blowing all over. I'd never seen anything like it. The Park Ranger said that the week before they had had 90 MPH gusts & that the storms usually lasted at least 3 days. So anyway, In an attempt to move my RV as it was parked with the wind blowing into the engine compartment & I thought it would be best if I turned it around, I happened to 'kiss' one of those steel road gates with the rear bottom plate of my awning. Though I just barely hit it, the plate cracked & the bottom leg of the awning was no longer stable & connected safely to the side of my RV. Winds were blowing like crazy & we were scheduled to leave within the next few hours. I certainly did not want to not move on with the group & be stuck alone there so I called GSEM....After several dropped calls & service Reps that seemed to ignore me & disconnect me (whether purposely or because of my location & the bad winds), I finally got someone who told me (after probably being on hold for 5 to 8 minutes & my phone losing it's battery power, which I explained to them & that fact obviously was ignored)...the Rep got back to me & said that 'the best that they could do, was to have someone come out from New Mexico' (remember, I'm in the Northern part of the state of Arizona) & they weren't sure when that would be but wanted to tow my RV as they weren't sure if they could 'fix' it where I was.
Of course I panicked a little & realized how absolutely stupid that reply sounded. Anyway, two of the fellas in the group saw my problem & after inspecting it & trying to figure out how to make my RV 'road ready', they solved the problem & I was able to move on with the group. I will NEVER again subscribe to Good Sam service. During this ordeal, I found that the majority of the Born Free RVers use Coach Net & are really, really happy with them. That will be my next choice for sure. BTW, the fellas that fixed my problem ??? One of them was a NASA scientist, the other an engineer of some sort with the Navy. Just goes to show how diverse RVers are....so in my opinion....go with Coach Net as from what I hear, they're top notch! Also here's the 'temporary fix'...

So sorry about your experience. I haven't changed from GS ER service because I've had excellent service with them - and last spring Jean used them with excellent service - and the same the spring before. That said, I know there are times with problems - and when I had my awning extend while driving, they couldn't guarantee someone with a towing service would be able to fix it - instead of towing me to a repair place. Luckily the towing service was able to tie things down to make driving safe for me - and then I went to a repair place on my own time. They aren't sending out repair services - that's not what they do. So I didn't know if I'd need to be towed or not.

Question for those of you with Coach net - what is the renewal cost. Couldn't get that on their website unless I could log in. Do they do the same as GS and have a higher rate when you renew? That could be the deciding factor for me when it's renewal time.

Here ya go, Beth. I had to look around a bit, too, to find it.
It's up at the top of the home page - center - Click on RV OWNERS

Mitch, that I had no trouble finding - well a tiny bit - but that's only for the first year - no where can I find what it would cost to renew. So, Sharon, or anyone else with it -????

I just sent 'em an email about renewal rates. I'm curious, too.

I have the Gold Membership Plan, initial fee was $99.50 that includes the $10 fee. I just checked the renewal rate and it is $109.50. There is a space for a discount that would be deducted from the fee, but I don't know if they will offer anything off when it comes time to renew or where the discount might come from.

Just curious. Doesn't everyone have roadside assistance that comes with their RV insurance? I have it with Progressive.
