When you are driving down the road, how do most of you keep your frig running? I've read many times that keeping it on propane is dangerous and a fire hazard should an accident occur. Switch it to battery?

I will answer what I do. I always turn propane off while driving. If your fridge is cold it will stay cold during the day while you travel even if you open if to get lunch items or a drink from it. I do not open the freezer to keep it colder and use some of those ice packs also bt have had no problems with food spoiling in around 10,000 miles of traveling.

I think this was also discussed on an earlier thread. We always leave the propane on-never thought twice about it. Still don't. I'm not sure how many RV'ers have been burned or died because they did. But everyone has to do what makes them comfortable. carold

We leave our fridge on automatic so that it switches from electric to propane when we unplug from home or a campground. One propane bottle is turned off until the first starts getting low, meaning at least one is left on at all times. People have different thoughts on this, but with anything, do what you are comfortable with.

Yep, this is a very volatile subject. What I will say - you ever see refrigerated trucks going down the road? They have the propane ON to keep the food cold. I never turn mine off, except where required (some tunnels, some boat crossings, etc).

The reason those places require propane to be turned off - is they expect us to be traveling with it on. My position - and for those who want to turn theirs off - that's their choice, also.
