Refrigerator issues and other things

I think I learned this lesson last summer and I think its finally sinking in,
I must remember to check the water in the batteries so the refrigerator
will operate properly. I think there is a connection here, but somebody
correct me if I'm wrong. My fridge is a Norcold, operates on ac and propane
or both. Ok, that said, I have no propane and am hooked up to shore power
but the refrigerator still needs the batteries for the control panel (12v) , is
this right? If that being the case, and my batteries are dry and will probably
need replaced now, that would explain why my refrigerator quit and everything
defrosted. Not to mention the fact that the fridge is on the sunnyside of the
rv and the hot sun beats down on it all day. Hopefully my refrigerator is ok,
batteries are cheaper than a new fridge. Anyway, I used the gallon of distilled
water I had to fill the batteries and hopefully tonight I can turn the fridge on
and see if it will cool. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Ok, other things I did
but had nothing to do with the batteries.............
I also went up on the roof, at 6 am, pulled the shroud off the a/c and checked
it all out to see if that needed any attention, everything looked ok to me although
I really didn't know what I was looking at other than there were no leaves, sticks
or mud daubers nests up there so I put the shroud back on. I did have to make
several trips up and down the ladder though before I finally had the tools that
worked. That was exausting!
Accessing the convertor panel, which is up front in the enclosed front storage
area.........I had to locate my screwgun to open it and that took forever to even
FIND it, I breifly though maybe I left it out and it got stolen but I finally found it.
Then of course while I was in there I pulled out some bags that were packed and
decided to bring those in cause I needed my other towels and sheets and few other
things. Do you see where I'm going with this? you start one thing and get side tracked
by another and so on. Not to mention the time out I had to take care of the issue
with Bandit and the bologna, when I finally feel hot sweaty and whooped I come in
and sit down at the computer and its only 10 afer 9!!!, geez thought I had been
working til noon!!!!!!! If sure felt like it, so as soon as my legs stop being jelly I'm
going to go take a nap!
In the meantime, humor me and go check the water level in your batteries just in
case you need some water, use distilled.

forgot to turn the fridge back on last night
so I turned it back on just now and we'll see if it starts to cool. If not I'll have to
call a repair man sometime after payday. There IS the possibility the problem
could be the converter not charging the batteries. I think I better invest in one
of those voltmeter's and learn how to use it.

I have three coach batteries and HATED pulling the caps off to see if they needed water. One is located under the step as you enter and the other two are on a pullout tray in the outside compartment next to the door. You never could see inside the back battery very well. I found and bought a battery filler thingy. I think its called a quikfil. You put caps that come with it onto your batteries and there's a piece of tubing with a plug at the end. When you need to fill your batteries, you take another piece of tubing with a rubber thing you squeeze and attach it to the tubing on the batteries, put the other end in your water bottle and squeeze the thing that looks like a turkey baster. Voila! It fills the batteries and you don't have to remove the caps. One is called Quik Fill and the other is Pro Fill. It was about $75 but in the long run I think it was worth it.

I've seen those quik fill thingies, thought they looked pretty nifty.
I'm going to modify my battery compartment when the time comes to take
out the old batteries and replace with new ones, which is probably soon.
Then they will just slide out without having to lift up over the lip of the
compartment door.
My freezer is down to 27 degrees now, but the fridge is only 70, and
thats just not cold enough. will give it more time to see if I can get
it down to at least upper 40's.
