Its so important to keep that anode rod replaced because a new hot water heater is SOooo expensive
the new anode...and the old one

but now I sit with a hole in the side of the fifthwheel where the water heater belongs and MAYBE the new one gets put in on Monday. I say maybe because I think he ordered the wrong one. But I'm too tired now to call the store back and my shoulder hurts so bad its driving me crazy. I'm done for the day.

need to check mine but don't know how to do it

last year I heard lots of ads on the radio for a business in the Phoenix area
that sounded like a place you could get rv stuff sorta sounded like a bone yard or surplus
place I'm missing the door on the heater they cost about 50 so was hoping I could check with
this place but they haven't started advertizing yet

if you have an atwood hot water tank, it does not use an anode. The suburban hot water tank uses the anode.
Shoulder is old age I guess, its been hurting for months and trying to get into my doc and have it looked at.

First open the door to your hot water heater and look and the drain plug. If it's plastic, other than removing it to drain and flush the heater once a year or so you are done. If the plug is metal you have the Suburban and have an anode.

Sheila, I have an anode rod I will give you if you have a Suburban HWH - left over from my 5th wheel days. Please PM me your phone number. I also have the tools to change it.

Hope there is no confusion here but the anode rod is supposed to be eaten away like that before you replace it. It means it's working the way it is supposed to work.

Did you take it out yourself, AVA? Another thing to add to my list of maintenance things I should be doing, I guess. How often should you check it?

Didn't do the work myself, my friend Jon is a plumber.

Judy, I used to drain and rinse out my wh every 6 months - and would check the anode rod at that time. I say used to because my tool is missing and my new rig has not been checked in forever! You'd be amazed at the crap that collects in their. If it gets rinsed out regularly the anode rod works longer, also. But it's cheap to replace the rod and easy to do.
