Hi. My water isn't working and The water pump isn't coming on.

My question is, is working on a water pump a easy job? I know I can't do it... I was thinking of getting a friend to fix it...if they know some about fixing water pumps...or is it a job that I need a shop to fix? My income isn't that big so I don't want to spend alot of money but also I want it done right.

Just was wondering how others get things fix.... :D

Marda, thanks for the link! Good luck Les! My pump "recycles" way too often--every 15-30 seconds  . Still works, but I think I'll see about getting it fixed.

If your pump recycles often, it usually indicates a leak somewhere.

It's pretty easy to replace your water pump. If you can get to it, give it a good looking over. Should have 2 wires going to it (the 12 volts) and 2 water lines. If you feel confident in unhooking those two wires (DON'T let them touch each other or anything else) and those two water lines, you can remove the pump and install a new one. You may have to reuse the fittings from your old pump. They should be fine unless one is split. This is an easy job to do. Just be sure to turn off the water. And if your water tank sits higher than your water pump, be sure to drain it before disconnecting the water lines. Have a towel handy. Some water will run out of the lines when you disconnect them. Maybe a small bucket or sauce pan to catch some of the water. Then unscrew it from the floor and take it with you to buy another one. If the new one doesn't come with fittings, be sure to save them off of your old pump. Install fitting into the new pump with some Teflon tape or a small bit of pipe dope. Don't use too much pipe dope. It's yukky and stains your clothes and you don't want it in your water line. If you aren't comfortable disconnecting live 12volt wires, disconnect your batteries first. This is a simple job.

You asked who does our rv repair. I do all my own. Plumbing, electrical, heat, etc. I've been in maintenance all my life and I can fix any of this stuff. I don't pay anyone to do anything for me. The rv places charge too much and I do a better job. My oven quit working recently. I went to buy a new gas valve for it. They looked it up and said that it was obsolete. I called BULL on that. Got on the internet and found one within 5 minutes. I'll be working on my oven this weekend. I don't trust anyone with my rv.

And another thing, they don't like to repair heaters because of the liability of working on a propane appliance. If they work on it and it blows up you'll want to sue them. Same with any propane appliance on an rv (depending on what is wrong with it). So they will tell you that it can't be fixed and you'll have to have a new heater or whatever. That may not be correct. You may indeed need a new heater but you may not. I have fixed my own heater before. I just don't trust them to always tell me the truth.

Wow, Deeann! You've got the makings for a great mobile business! Ever thought about taking your skills to folks who need it? If you were in my neck of the woods I'd call you in a heartbeat.

BTW … where DO you live? :?
