Verizon - not

Now that I will be on the road I have to look into upgrading my phone and decided to get an iPhone. What misery I got from Verizon. I signed a contract with them last year that they don't even carry any more because no one in their right mind would sign it now. After a lot of hassle they gave me the half price they are charging new customers for the same service. But they keep telling me how good it was of them to do that...since I singed the contract they have the right to charge me double for another year unless they decided to be "nice."
Now I want to upgrade the phone, but they said not until next year - because of the contract I signed (wha? you can't upgrade?). And if I pay to cancel the contract, they will delete my phone number so I can't port it over. I checked on this, and that not right, actually, it's illegal to tell me that.
A much better experience when I went to Radio Shack. They will give me the same iPhone for less, will cancel Verizon's contract for me (I will have to pay, but there will be no other consequence), they will port over the number, pull over my contacts to my new phone, and give me an inexpensive pay as you go service. Go Radio Shack. Or, at leas I hope this goes a lot better than Verizon..I'm sure I'm going to be living off my phone.

Who will be the pay-as-you-go service provider for the iPhone?

I had a terrible (and similar) experience with Verizon - switched to AT&T and couldn't be happier. I know many on the forum like Verizon, but you won't hear any accolades for them from me. I went with AT&T because they and Verizon have the best coverage areas and I wanted to know I'd be connected most of the time. That said, you are likely using one of their networks on your pay-as-you-go plan.

I have Verizon and have had my doubts from time to time but over all been happy. I only go to the Corporate owned stores though. I have gotten some strange songs and dances from the franchise places.

I have Verizon on my tablet which I use as a hot spot when I travel. I get limited service for $30 per month which is all I'm willing to pay for only using it about once a month. The cheapest AT&T would do was $60. I could probably upgrade my phone to get internet but haven't decided I want to do that yet.
Going down the interstate Verizon service is fine. The last time I went to the lake I was getting 3 bars all day but could only get on the internet after 11 pm. AT&T probably wouldn't be any better up there . I can't get a TV signal at all.

My month to month on my iPad with AT&T is $30. But it's not a hotspot.

I pay an extra $30 on my phone to tether and/or use it as a hot spot. My phone bill is comparable to what it was with Verizon but I have a few different services.

I have ATT on my phone and tablet and a Verizon hotspot. I'm happy with both for different reasons. My hotspot seems to work everywhere and saved me in my current location where ATT doesn't work. However ATT credited me about $500 so far for my data plans on the two devices while I have not had service.

I understand I can get a basic (with unlimited data) pay as you go plan from Virgin. I know others who have been happy with that service. I'll start with the basic and see if I need to upgrade. Will keep you all posted. I get my new iPhone on Thursday -

Nope. WalMart's got some sort of program, too. I don't know much about it since Verizon works just fine for me. But you have to get a certain kind of phone -- one that's not set(?) for Verizon or AT&T. It might be worth a visit -- if you can find someone who knows what he/she is talking about.

That's what I was told when I got my Iphone...... which by the way, I love... course the old phone was 8 yrs. old... and my Iphone is on a family plan with my son's dear lady friend... so I'm paying about $50 a mo. less than if I had my own acct. I can live with it ! OH! and yes I'm with Verizon....have been for yrs... before they were Verizon as a matter of fact. I'm pretty satisfied...

One of my students last year worked for Verizon at the corporate level or maybe it was regional level. He told me that there were Verizon stores which were privately owned and others which were owned by Verizon itself and strongly advised me to go to one of the corporate-owned stores. He said you get better information and deals than the stores which make commissions.
Don't know if this helps or not, but I thought you might want to find out who owned the store you were dealing with. I have not have any problems with them, but of course I have not tried to upgrade either.
Good luck with this.

IPhone originally were with just at&t. Then they added Verizon. Now they are pretty much anywhere.
My problem with Verizon was with a corporate store. But you can get better pricing directly over the franchises in most cases.
