tv antenna

is there any use to get one? can we get anything w/ just a regular one any more these days? just wondering if it would be worth the money


any advice would be helpful a BUNCH!

It depends on where you are. If you are close to a city with tv stations you should be able to pick up the local stations. If your motorhome has an older tv you would need one of the converter boxes to pick up digital stations. I replaced my old tv with one of the new flat screen tvs and mounted it on a swing out arm.

It also depends on what you like to watch. My experience before I got my satellite is that there were a lot of game shows and judge whatever shows. I often did get three PBS stations, one of which was the Create channel and another for adults. But a lot of the time, you would get 7 channels and two of them would be in Spanish.

Another problem was that if I were not near a big city, I would just get engrossed in something and it would die. Very frustrating.

Now, if I were going to be spending a few months someplace near a big city, it would be worth it to me. Also, got to remember to put them down when you move.

I'm not a tv junkie, well not usually. Can go long periods without. But I do check for stations when sitting anywhere any length of time. Sometimes get one or two, sometimes 7 - 10. I will pick junk to watch whether I have a couple stations or 50 stations. Just a fact of life lol ... actually, I'm happy sometimes when I get two stations and they are both PBS.

That said, if you are going to have satellite tv, you won't need the antenna. I can't see spending the money for satellite - not worth it to ME personally.

Then, when you have a so-called friend who sends you the first three seasons of a show you never heard of (24) and I'm now addicted - into the 3rd season and will need to watch all the rest ... well, what can I say - but I do enjoy watching them like this better than weekly on tv lol ... Dang show.

thanks, girls! the tv in the mh is an a/c-d/c one so it's not digital. I think we will just keep it and buy a dvd player and watch movies when we want... maybe even the 'series' of some things. We are hooked on Breaking Bad which we watch at home on Netflix. also I love Longmire. He's a hunk, too!

was @ camping world in New Braunfels, Tx. last week and bought a JACK antenna that picks up digital stations. Bought a new flat screen tv to replace the old-style heavy one. The thing I want to vent about is that CW charged me over $600 for purchase and installation of the antenna,,, saying they had to rewire and make the hole bigger in the roof. The tv is ac/dc and the Jack is only AC,, imagine that!? (who knew?) so,, had to buy another dc outlet and bl bla bla....anyway,, my question is: do any of you find that CW is a bit heavy on the checkbook w/ whatever it is they do for you, and should I shy away from having them do any service for us again?

Just wondered and want to hear you all's feedback.

Janet, I moved your two posts together so people would see it all together. There are numerous stories about problems with Camping World here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=11958

Janet, if you did a search on the forum regarding CW, you'd see that no one recommends them for service - no one.

Saying it again... I never have them do anything on my RV.... incompetent workers... over priced cost .... too many problems... poor customer service.... etc., etc.
