Many of the sites I've been looking at (Oregon GTG) show 50 amp sites only. Can I use one of them? My little coach uses 30 amp. Thanks. I probably should know this, but I don't remember.

Most sites have a 30amp and a 50amp plug. No worries,

I think that it's pretty much a given that you'll find 30 amp at all sites. What I believe they're saying is that they've got lots of 50 amp sites as well -- something that can be hard to find at times.

It's good practice to carry adaptors, both to step up and go down with your power. And after learning the hard way I carry a 30 amp extension cord as well.

I have never seen a site that says it has 50 amp that does not also have 30 amp. Most also have 20 amps.

Good idea to get adapters, just in case, and the extension cords is really helpful when you want to pull in forwards on a back-in site to enjoy a particular view and have to run a long cord under your rig. I did that a couple of times at ocean-front campsites.

The only cg's I've been to that have 50 amp at the site without also having 30 amp, have immediately provided the adapter. So I don't have that one - and after all these years, don't intend to get it unless things change. I do believe in adapters DOWN for those with 50 amp service to both 30 and 20. And down to 20 for those of us with 30 amp.

At the campground we stayed at in Alabama I had to use the 50 amp adapter to get enough electricity. The 30 amp breaker kept tripping at the box. The parks system wasn't up to the number of people staying there. There were quite a few of what looked like the old FEMA trailers that they must have been renting out. I had bought the adapter one time I was wandering around Walmart and couldn't find enough junk to buy. I was sure glad I had it that day because it was HOT.

Martha - was that campground right off 65 in Mobile by any chance? I stayed there and if I hadn't had Mark with me, I would have been out of there.

Maggie, the campground was just West of Mobile and South of I-10 in Theodore. Sharon ask them something about any trouble and the lady told her they got rid of those people. It was quiet and no trouble but just not enough electricity. We were just going to be there one night.

Thank you everyone. I forgot that I posted this question, so I'm glad I was reading new posts and found it. I have the adapter that lets me plug my 30watt extension cord into my house outlet. I don't think I have one that lets me plug into a 50 watt outlet. I guess I'll add it to the list. :D It might be a long time before I get through this list.

You just never know what you might need and I don't think you can carry everything. In many years of rving that was the first time I needed the 50 amp adapter. I have had to use the 30 amp adapter to plug into a house much more often. Most of the time we aren't that far from a Walmart but it's a pain to need something and not have it.

That's why I worry so much about my rig weight - I plan for most every contingency, and those "plans" all add up!

I carry:

30A female to 20A male
20A male to 30A female
30A female to 50A male

It's all my Dad's fault.
Mom was normal.

Mitch, I carry so many wires, cords, electronics, flashlights, fuses and no telling what else. My DH says it's from the Yarbrough side of my family. He and I stopped by my Uncle's ranch in Texas one time. There were old farm machines that were probably from the 30's and 40's. A tool shed full of old parts, pipes and junk. When I was a kid we played with all of that and thought it was great. Back then you didn't run to town if something broke. You dug around and found something to fix it.
