Over on Morning Coffee, Christine posted about buying an air mattress. Lightbulb! I could put an air mattress on top of the sofa at night and deflate it during the day. A simple solution, my favorite kind. So, does anyone here know anything about air mattresses? Years ago I had one that always deflated during the night. Don't want to go there again. I'll do the research and would like to hear from y'all, too.

Well, I was going to recommend looking at an Aero Bed. I have a queen that I use for guests. Had it about 7 or 8 years and it's been great. However, before making the recommendation to you, I went looking. Lots of bad reviews.

Then I remembered George and I bought self-inflating camping mats/pads for our kayaking trip to Palau. You unscrew the valve and the thing inflates itself. To pack away, unscrew the valve and roll up (basically, squeezing the air out of it). Darn easy, and much lighter than an Aero Bed. Ours were on the small side (short) (shut up, Vickie!), but I see now they come in larger sizes.

Something to think about.

On Amazon, I thought. I may have searched elsewhere. I know the Aerobed site, for one.

I bought an INTEX at WalMart, comes with its own
built in pump. I was very happy with it and it never
lost air the whole month I used it. Deflating was simple,
just open the valve, rolled it up as the air came out and
it even fit back in the duffle bag it came with.

I've bought low-end air mattresses and high-end ones, and I really haven't found much difference between them, so now I just grab whatever is on sale. Daily inflation/deflation does shorten their life; I usually get 3 to 5 months of daily use. I finally made a 'sleeve' from an old sheet, and the extra protection seems to help. One of those thin quilted mattress pads makes them more comfortable in hot weather.

In spite of my good intentions, I'm surely to lazy to inflate and deflate daily. If I could find one that stayed firm for three months, I'd be very satisfied. I found a Fantastic Fan on line for much less than the list price, so I ordered it and the rain cover. No remote control. My RV guy will give me a break on the installation cost if I pay cash. So, I splurge on a fan and be more frugal with a mattress. Right now it's either an air mattress or high density foam with a memory foam topper. I already have the topper. Thanks to everyone for the input. Today I put the last coat of paint on the walls. On Monday I start the last section of cabinets. Woohoo! There is a light at the end of the tunnel and it ain't a train.

I'm considering adding an air mattress to my bed next time - with just a thin memory foam topper. My last air mattress lasted several months - of daily use - and it was a cheapie. Only occasionally needed to add a little air.

it did what the description said, sheets did not slide and it was firm and comfortable.
I do wish I'd had my mattress pad though just because I feel more comfortable with
a mattress pad under the sheet. It had the flocked top so the sheets did stay put
even with Maggie rearranging the blanket

Here's the one I've had marked for a possible buy - a little more money, but I like the fact it's got the built in refill - and read the reviews and like them, for the most part. Especially reading the ones that use theirs fulltime.

It's ok here - just looked in other rooms first - not think of this as maintenance or tech, but don't worry about it. It's just good for the search feature to try to put threads where they can be found when someone else wants the same info. Nothing to be sorry about ...
