Stuck Door

Stuck Door

Postby bluepinecones » Thu Jun 20, 2013 10:48 pm

I noticed earlier this spring that the door to RV was getting difficult to open. Didn't think too much about it at first (actually thought it was my grip getting worse, not problem with door). Last week it became impossible to open. I even went in thru drivers door and tried to push it open from the inside with no success. Two others tried and failed also. Finally a 3rd person was able to pry it open.

I see no signs of the weather stripping tearing/sticking to door and the lock seems to operate properly when the door is open.
Will it help (or at least not hurt the weather stripping) to spray it with a silicon spray? Or does anyone have a better solution?

If it's real hot and humid, it might simply be swelling. Mine does, but not to the point where I can't open it. If this is the cause, I don't see that spraying would help. Might just be a good seal. I also have had to adjust the area around the lock more than once - sometimes a screw will be slightly loose, and stick out - and that can be more of a pain. I'd see if the door is easier to deal with on a cool day - then you'll know better.

Had the same problem in my Gulfstream. Had to replace the door lock.

It had been getting harder and harder to open and one day I came back to the RV and couldn't get it to open. I pulled up a ladder and climbed thru the sliding window by the sofa and couldn't open it from inside either. Called my mobile mechanic in a panic - "Can't get the door open, climbed thru window and can't open from inside and the dogs need to go out!" There was a long pause and then my mechanic asked" Don't you have a Class C with two doors up front?" My face was red and he laughed every time he saw me for months after. My neighbor must have also wondered why I was climbing in the window when I had two doors up front.

Thanks, Beth. Yes, it has been hot and humid - both numbers in low 90s lately. Unfortunately with this being the first day of summer, it is likely to be Oct before we have a cool day. I'm going back to campground this weekend. If still a problem, will try silicon spray on just the lock and also see if I can determine if it appears to be off a bit..

Thanks for the chuckle, Karen. At least I remembered this time that I had another door.

Problems with the side door lock seems to be a common problem. I haven't had mine stick but the dead bold doesn't match up with the hole. I have already had it worked on once. I am so paranoid about getting locked out that I try to never get out without a set of keys in my pocket.

My lock on the brand new camper stuck!!! I rubbed bees wax on the lock and it has worked fine since! I had to climb into the truck and through the little window between truck and camper (which I have for the cat) to open the door from the inside. That was a sight. What a struggle and glad no one was there with a camera!
