Charging The Battery

..
I really don't want to go over to Testosteroneville, and I just know you guys will have the answer...
Say I'm boondocking for a period of time and need to charge my battery, using my Honda EU1000i generator.
Is it more efficient to charge the battery (single, group 27, I think) using the trailer's built in converter thing, or use a free-standing battery charger (like you'd use for a car)??
I THINK I recall over on rv dot net (several years ago) that it was more efficient to use a charger, but I'm not sure.
Anyone know for sure...(carrying a car charger is more weight and something else to schlepp around).
