Running Water Pump While Hooked Up to City Water

I just learned that Betsy's previous owner ran the water pump while he was on city water and had a leak at the fresh water tank. So I have to have the couches pulled and the entire floor checked for rot. Do any of you know if running the water pump while hooked up could also cause leaks at the hot water heater? I admit I haven't done any other research, yet. Will do that right away. I'm the kind of person who tries to make sense of situations and understand them when I'm troubled. I know"understanding" doesn't fix the problem, but somehow making sense of things helps me feel better. Really trying to maintain equanimity and stay out of blame. Not doing very well with that.

NOT supposed to run pump while hooked up to city water - may have caused too much pressure in water lines????? Look at the bright side - you wanted to replace the carpet and one sofa so at least that job may be easier. Have you talked to the guy who sold you the rig? Hang in there girl, someday this will just be a story you tell around the campfire.

So far I've replaced the frig (quit on trip to SD), the AC (I wanted bigger unit) and the microwave. I knew when I bought an older rig that I would need to replace stuff so I was sort of prepared.

Karen, as I've said, you are the eternal optimist. I have moments when I can look on the bright side. Thanks for the encouragement and confirmation that pumps and city water don't go together well. I'll keep on keepin' on.

Neighbor who sold it to me denies any knowledge that there was a problem.

Since I run my water pump at times, especially for showers, when hooked to city water, I did a little research after reading Karen's post.

This is just one link I came across http://www.irv2.com/forums/f54/water-pump-running-on-city-water-66615.html and I think I tend to agree.

The water pump is set to run at certain pressure and should compensate for the pressure from city water supply.

I agree with Anita. And there were times I've run mine while hooked up to city water. Since I did it when getting low water pressure I was hoping to improve it. That said, since getting my Oxygenics water head, have not done it since.

I've done some research, too, both Internet and talking with RVing friends. Most folks believe that the leak at the water tank wasn't caused by the pump being on with city water.
Previous owner neighbor, got some bad info I guess.

So, I have a new mantra which includes words better not typed here. :o

For refined ladies such as yourselves, I've revised the mantra to Fix It. Just Fix It and Move On. I'll let y'all know when I'm back on the road. I'm going on vacation for a couple weeks. No RVs involved. :D
