To hear a loud one, go somewhere where construction is going on and they are using generators. Then you will know what loud is.

If mine is working when you see me - will turn it on - you'll hear a loud, obnoxious rv generator. And you'll understand why I want solar and to rarely ever use a generator. Hardly any of the long term folks in Baja used generators. Loved that. And we won't talk about my neighbor on one beach that started their generator at 6 or so am to make coffee. I wasn't very pleasant to them. And I was having to run mine twice a day - but never when the world was in bed. Idiots.

Be sure the gas cap vent is set to ON, or the generator will never start due to suction problems. I have a Honda 2000, and when/if I forget to open the gas cap switch, no running! Also, to keep from flooding in warmer weather, fiddle with the choke now and then. If it's cold, you will need the choke. If you pull and pull and it gets warm or flooded, push the choke back in. As soon as it's running properly make sure you have the choke all the way back in to save on gas and flooding. You can tell by the sound of the motor.

To sum it up:
Cold=pull out choke.
Set switch to ON
Move gas cap thingy to ON
Pull cord straight out. Should start with one or two pulls.
When running smoothly, or getting to falter with choke out, slowly push choke back in. And there you go!
Life is about learning to dance in the rain
Happy travels!

..

I FINALLY got the hang of it - I've been keeping it in the house near the front door. When I go to let The Beast out, I take the Honda outside, no choke, straight pull, gas cap "open" - one pull, every time. I now have a better grasp of "flooding"!! :)

This morning, I put some gas stabilizer in the gas tank, and took it out to the garage to await its maiden voyage.

Thanks for all the advice.

Glad to hear - funny how these things can sometimes get the best of us - but you didn't let it - only very temporarily!
