Janet, I am not adverse to spitting. My childhood playmates were boys and I really tried to be a good spitter but it just dribbles down my chin. :)

I ordered my beanbag GPS thingy yesterday from Overstock.com-----free shipping for the weekend. I also ordered me a new headlamp so I can see to get out to the truck on these damn dark mornings without breaking my neck!!

How come you still need to use the suction cup with the beanbag thing? Guess I'm just not sure how they work----I got the one that has three bags and is adjustable for all sorts of electronic devices. I assumed you just put the suction cup thing under the bags, no?

Soos, There is a hard surface in the center of the donut. The suction cup on the gps adheres to that hard surface.

Mine's in my lap or on the seat at the moment. I use it mainly for geocaching right now but intend to do other things with it as well. Looked at some of those beanbag-type holders on Amazon and eBay yesterday, but decided an interface data cable would be more useful right now. The holder will be next, though.

I mount it on the driver's door window. I can reach & see it easily, it doesn't obstruct my view, and the light from the monitor doesn't interfere with me seeing out the windshield when I'm driving at night.

My dash is too curvy for any suction cup to stay stuck, so I bought the bean bag type base that has the plastic post in the center to clip in the GPS. I didn't think it heavy enough to stay put if I were to start tapping the screen while driving, but it does. Oh, and I have it sitting on the console and part of it is over my beverage holder hole and it still stays put. Pretty neat so far.

Would velcro work to hold it onto the dashboard? Just a thought...

I never have any luck with velcro. Especially on a dash that will get very warm. Doubt it would stay stuck.

On Ebay I got a thingy that mounts to your vents if they run horizontal that your GPS can mount to. I move my GPS from my RV to my car. I have one of those donut things but it slides around in my car and RV. They do break suction sometimes.

Sorta on the same subject ... remember that crazy lady who lived with me a year ago, imploded & ended up in jail? Well, I haven't been able to find my tomtom GPS ... assume she stole it. So Walmart had some on sale so I bought one ... actually an upgrade from what I had before. I got it home and programmed my home address in. BUT ... where the satellite "sees" me is a quarter-mile from my house!

That doesn't give me a whole lot of confidence that it will get me where I want to go. I mean, I want to go WHERE I want to go, NOT within a quarter-mile or so. Y'know what I mean? "Almost" is good enough in horseshoes and hand grenades, but not for a GPS.
