Steering in a Motorhome.

Lenore, so sorry. My first RV, also a class B, wandered and I found it really tiring to drive as you can't fully relax. I never checked into seeing if anything could be done since I had already decided I needed bigger. I 2nd the Camping World or an RV specialist and ask about the steersafe. If they say yes, I'd be inclined to call the people you bought it from as ask them to pay for the repair. They may not have known about an accident but they HAD to know it wandered.

Hope all works out. And carfax is not perfect. We got a call from the people that bought our class C and carfax did not even mention that it had a brand new transmission that we put in that year with a full warranty. carold

Karen etal,
When I first looked at the RV I asked how it drove, as I had read enough forums to know that allot of poeple talk about using things such as the steer safe, etc., so that was a concern for me. The guy assured me that it drove normally in that because it was a higher profile than a car, I'd feel a bit of wind etc. but otherwise it was good.
After I bought it, my neighbor, David, drove it home and I asked him how it felt and he said it was good.
Then my SIL drove it that day to get the emmission test done, and afterward that's when I first drove it home and I felt it wandered, but he said he didn't feel anything. So 3 different men drove it and said it was fine. At that point I thought it was just me getting use to driving a MH, but the more I drove it the more I was noticing it just didn't drive right, period. Also it doesn't self straighten after turning onto the road, and I felt that unusual, but again, thought it was something perhaps all MHs did.
So tonight I contacted the former owners and am awaiting word back. We'll see if they have anyting to offer. I'm not holding my breath, but I do feel they needed to know what I was going through.
Thanks again for your concern and suggestions. Much appreciated!

You said they looked underneath and saw all of the new parts, but did they check the alignment? Hope wandered all over when I first got her and she needed an alignment. Might be worth a few bucks to take her to an alignment shop and have it checked before you just accept it.

I agree with what Sharon just said. I wonder if there is a law about disclosing if a vehicle has been in an accident.

It just had 6 new tires put on so balancing and alignment were done then.
I did call Scott again at the Tire Factory to make sure all things pretaining to the tires and steering had been checked, and he said that they were. I also asked him if he thought a Steer Safe or stabilizers would help and he said that those were generally added to rigs with big tires to help with highways that get those worn tire grooves that can cause a wider vehicle to sway in and out of the grooves and has nothing to do with wandering issues like I have.
I got a phone call from the guy I bought the RV from and he was upset to learn of my news as he DID run a Carfax before he bought it and nothing showed up. So he was as perplexed as I am. He offered to fax me a copy of the report.
So that's where it all stands. Pretty much I will have to learn to live with it.
I may call Ford just to see if they can offer anything different.

Yes, new tires are always balanced. Wheel allignment is a different story. Sharon, that's a great idea to get that checked out. That might solve your problem, Lenora.
