Storing my RV for winter

Storing my RV for winter

Postby Redetotry » Tue Oct 18, 2011 11:31 am

I was so worried about winterizing my RV because I can't use the antifreeze stuff. But the other day I drove past a place right here in town and saw a sign that said heated RV/boat storage. I called and the price isn't too bad so problem solved! But what about my batteries? Do I do something with or to them so they don't just run down, like turn off the switch to them?

Yep, disconnect them.

But why can't you use the antifreeze? Here's a link to a RT group page on winterizing a RT:

And they do use the pink antifreeze.

But it will be easier if the price is right and you can store it without having to do all that :) But then you'll not have use of it for running around town, etc, if the chance comes up. Just sayin'.

I can't handle the smell from the pink stuff. I read a lot about just blowing out the lines and I thought about that and then adding some adult beverage to the traps

OMG, that's a horrible use of Adult Beverage. If you have some to get rid of bring it to the next gtg and I bet it will be gone.

Ah, BJ that is what I did one time with my Casita TT when I had it. I didn't have water in the fresh tank, had dumped but had a little water in the holding tanks, so I blew out the water lines and then put some awful cheap adult beverage (no one that I knew would drink it....that's why I still had it) in the traps. Only needed to keep it that way for a couple days before I was ready to head out of town. It worked fine. However, the temps down here in Central Texas that is freezing enough to do that is/was in the low 20's. I only disconnect my water line now if it is going to be at 30* or below and don't do anything else...well I do stuff insulation in the outside shower for the whole winter. Otherwise I believe in the "head south" girl!

The heated storage sounds great. You know I am a KISS (keep it simple stupid) person. Definitely make sure the battery is in the off position.
