Martha, that was how Hope got her boo-boo....big rock, only in the front, couldn't see it.

I use the back camera, as Sharon said, to see that I have my toad behind me (still), when I pass, as I enter the freeways, and to check what idiot is 2 feet behind the toad and how many 18 wheelers are rolling up behind me! I don't have a back window. It's easier to judge distance with the camera than with the mirrors.

I use the camera over the gas fill up to position at the pump, while using the back camera to make sure I am in a position where some wonderful person while talking on the phone or eating the hotdog will not back out and hit Herbie (the toad). I do my driving (forward) and backward using the mirrors. I would not ever (I hope) use the back camera to backup. It won't show me where my wheels are or where my back bumper is. And yep, I get out and look at the area I am going to back up into and figure where I want to position both sides. But driver side takes precedence because of the hookups. The side camera helps with that too. Just another tool.

But I definitely love the new rigs that have side cameras mounted on the doors so you can see those little bitty things (smart cars, etc) on your sides. Those are really cool. I want those on my next rig - probably won't have them cuz it won't be that new!

Birdie, I have the front side cameras on Hope and don't like them. The bottom part of my mirror is set to see the sides and I can see from the front door all the way to the back with them. I had Hope in for servicing a while back and the mechanic for whatever reason set the camera to automatic and every time I turned a corner the side cameras came on...couldn't for the life of me figure out why in the world it was doing that and how they managed to screw up my camera just changing the oil! I've had her for 6 years and never knew my camera would do that and still can't figure out why they have it on there..couldn't really see anything I needed to see with the side ones.

Sharon my side cameras are in conjunction with my turn signals. I think there is a setting on the camera that you can turn that off. I like mine to come on when I signal as I use the camera AND my mirrors. I'm not sure either how that happened with an oil change....truly puzzling ha ha
