Boards or Lynx Levelers

Now that I have my second TT and am getting it ready to head out for a first time trip, I need to get something to level with. On my last TT, I used 2x8 by 8's for my dual wheels and they came in handy a number of times. This time around I am considering getting some Lynx Levelers at Wal Mart. Friend has some and loves them.

But wondered what most of you use? I haven't seen too many rigs with the plastic blocks under them Seems like most people use boards, which of course are far cheaper and we love to save money, right But boards can be heavy and dirty and....

Anybody who uses the plastic levelers ever have a problem with them? I would think that in a way, they would be a bit more time consuming in a rain storm for instance.

I carry 3 boards and a set of the plastic levelers. Sometimes I only need a little side to side leveling and a board under each wheel on one side is enough. I find that the plastic levelers have a tendency to sink in the mud if it's wet.

used to have boards don't know what happened to them but we used a combo of both

We used to use boards then I bought some Lynx levelers....DH thought I was nuts, but now he really likes them.

Boards are going to be heavy, and given your tow vehicle situation I'd be looking for any way I could to keep things lightweight. I have Lynx and really like them -- easier to clean up when they get muddy, and I can configure them in different ways if need be.

I started with boards, changed to lynx levelers and wouldn't go back - for many reasons, including the weight. No problem with them sinking. Did have a problem with boards rotting and splitting, though.

I have much less outside storage than you but can fit 2 bags of the Lynx levelers in my little cubby. I love them. I used them not only for leveling side to side but also under the scissor jacks that I use to stabilize the front of the trailer (my trailer only has stabilizers in the rear). I use more of them now for the jacks since I flipped the axle on my TT.

And Sue, I don't know what your clearance is like but a lot of Sportsmen Classic owners have done the axle flip to gain a little more clearance. I gained 4-6", just enough to keep from dragging getting out of my driveway and service station drives or anywhere where there is a change in angle. I just waited until my warranty was up to avoid voiding the warranty in any way.

Have never used lumber but have seen others do so successfully. I use the blocks just fine and don't plan on switching. I carry two sets (Once you park in Sarah's drive way, it become necessary to own at least two sets..... ) I try to park so that it is the front that needs the lift, but I have enough to lift back dual tires if they need it. I have limited storage and like that I can store blocks separately in different areas as needed.

I bought an 8 foot long 2x12, and Lowes cut it into four pieces at no charge. So now I have four 2x12 boards that will go in nicely sideways for my duallies. Cost was about $10 total. I did not buy the treated ones. They will eventually crack from all the weight on them, but since I have more than I need, I don't mind.

I also have the lynx blocks, but on really soft sandy soil (as in Michigan) I have had problems with them sinking in and moving as I drive on top of them.

I keep a whisk broom in the compartment with the boards and brush them of when I put them away.

I think boards would do much better in muddy soil or loose sand. You could probably make do with a 2x10, cut into pieces.
