RV Refrigerator Tips

RV Refrigerator Tips

I thought this might be helpful especially for those of you who are new to RVing. There is a short video on use of the RV refrigerator.

A couple of things I found a bit strange:

she keeps her eggs on the top shelf--I think this is the coldest shelf and I would rather keep deli items like lunch meat here.

she shops produce first at the grocery store--I don't want produce at the bottom of my cart to get crushed so I go there last.

I know some of you don't travel with your fridge on propane but we always have and I love the auto setting that switches automatically from propane to electric when I plug my RV in. One hint if you are not a full timer: always check that your fridge did switch to propane when you head out. If the propane has been shut off, it may take a bit of time for it to go through the lines. The fastest way to make this happen is to turn on a burner on your stove until it will light. Then you are sure you have propane in the line if your fridge is closer to your tank than the stove.

Now that I think about it, both of the grocery stores I shop at guide you through produce first by where they have their entrance doors. Wonder if it's a marketing technique... I have to be careful, like you say, to keep later groceries from crushing the produce. :?

However I think the coldest shelf is on the bottom since cold air sinks - unless the mechanics of an RV fridge make that different. That's true in my house fridge anyway.

Cool video. She sure packs a lot more in hers than I tried to put in my 8cf Norcold. Thanks for posting the link, Colleen.

The reason I think the top shelf is the coldest is because the cooling fins are located immediately behind it in an RV fridge Ellen and the air doesn't circulate as well as in a home fridge. I've had a couple of eggs freeze up there. Some people use a little battery operated fan in the fridge. It's a cube about 2" by 2". I agree that she really had things packed in.

Agree with Colleen. The coldest shelf in my fridge is the top shelf. I don't keep my eggs there either.
