Data - text - talk

Data - text - talk

Postby oregonrambler1 » Sun Sep 16, 2012 2:31 pm

Has anyone had experience with the unlimited data / text / talk pay-as-you-go phone from WalMart? I was just wondering how good the service was and if it's a pain in the you-know-what to have a pay-as-you-go phone.

I haven't had the Wal Mart brand. However, there are places that my AT&T wouldn't work traveling to and through AK this summer and i bought a Trac Fone at K-Mart. It is a pay for minutes and you have so many service days and minutes. Can talk and text. I didn't get the data super duper plan...just the cheap one. That has really be very good in addition to the AT&T phone. I normally always have service now. The AT&T is normally always available, but I did run into the some no signal areas in Montana this Spring. I like it and will keep it as a second phone as long as I am traveling.

On my trip to South Dakota Carole with her Walmart phone had better service than I did with my Sprint. Her phone was using AT%T towers. Check which towers those various phones use. Some of them use both AT&T and Verizon towers and some only use AT&T or Sprint. Most of the phones don't offer data but I believe, you can buy data cards separately. Most parks these days seem to have pretty good WiFi compared to what it was years ago.

Thank you for the info. Walmart has two plans now that are data / text / talk, one is $30.00/month for a 'timed' plan, the other is unlimited for $45.00 / month (after 2G download you might get slower download speeds but I'm not planning on downloading movies or anything like that, just want to access the internet). I often have to leave my laptop at home for our son because it is the 'business' computer so I just want internet access while I'm on the road, WiFi at campgrounds and such, no help. We're leaving in the morning for a rally on the coast but I think I'm going to look into this in depth when we get home. I'm also thinking that our current cell phone, which isn't 'texting' friendly, I can turn into a 100 minute/month pay card (for like $10.00) so I basically can have two cell phones for what we are paying now for one and add data to boot!
