Love at First Sight

Today was the day. Took Sophie to the SPCA to meet her new best friend. They were a little concerned because Baxter could be a little "agressive" when playing. Introduced them on leashes - lots of tail wagging and sniffing of butts. Turned them loose and a lot of running, sniffing, peeing and tail wagging. Only once Baxter got a little pushy and Sophie snapped at him. He backed right down so you know who the oboss is going to be. Women rule - hoomans or dogs. Rode home in the care together in the back seat - no whining or crying. Got them home and turned them loose in the yard - HAPPY DOGS. Lots of peeing by Baxter, staking his claim. Baxter promptly squeezed thru the fence so off to the hardware store and after stapling some screening to the fence, voila - no more squeezing through.

Baxter is a year and a half; not much of a barker, walks well with Sophie on a leash, part peke and part terrier and has been at the shelter since August and did I say really sweet.

Guess I'll have to remember how to change my signature photo - when I get one take of the three of us. Buddy and Sassy are smiling down from the Rainbow Bridge.

Oh, Baxter looks like fun! The three of you are going to have a great time.

I get such a kick out of dogs' insistence on marking territory. When I go to my sister's house, William and Wally follow each other around the yard, marking over the other's scent. Sometimes they hit their favorite spots several times each; they both want to leave their pee on top. When they run out of pee, they mark symbolically, lifting their legs even though nothing comes out. Me, I sit on the porch and laugh at them.

Congratulations on the new family member. But we knew that didn't we? Baxter seems like he is fitting right in. The first day I had Trent, he too, escaped through the gate spaces. (Now he is too round.   ) Linda

Sophie definitely looks like she enjoys being part of the larger pack once again. Does the kitty at the door care that there is a new family member? Congratulations... :)

Thought I posted this already but here goes again. Tina, the pictures were taken at the SPCA so the cat is actually the office cat. He is really lovable but positive for feline aids and will need meds for the rest of his life so on one wants to adopt him. Sophie thought he was pretty neat but the cat didn't think Sophie was so great. Sophie loves cats but she is waaaay too in their face and they usually end up smacking her.
