Saying goodbye

I know some of you saw my post on fb...decided I would share it here too. Yesterday Bailey took her final journey to the rainbow bridge. She was 14, and I'd seen indications that her health was failing over the past several months, but she was still eating and doing her normal routine. That is, until Friday, when she wouldn't eat. From there she went downhill really fast and by sunday evening she was really not well at all. I was worried that maybe her teeth had abscesses, because I knew they were kinda bad but the vet and I had decided that at her age and in her health that she most likely wouldn't have survived the surgery necessary to remove them. However, yesterday the vet told me that it was renal failure, and that it was definitely time to help her out of a bad situation. My daughter joined me at the vets for the final fairwell and we both stayed right by her side as she passed. the cats even rallied around her in the morning, before we left for the vets. I guess they were saying farewell too. I will miss my stinky girl. She was the stinkiest dog I've ever had, being a mix of beagle and terrier. That hound dog smell...always! No matter how many baths or how often we bathed her. But she was a good companion, demanded her treats of everyone who walked in the door, and in the end, would demand treats just because she had awakened from a nap! she was a good traveling companion, good watchdog, and a part of the family for 14 years...yep...definitely gonna miss her.

So sorry for your loss. Bailey was a fun friend and I know how much you'll miss her. But now she is running in doggy heaven free from all the aches and pains now.

So sorry to hear of your loss. We too have watched numerous furry kids cross over and no matter how long they were part of our family, each was loved and left a small hole in our hearts. They are all so unique, little habits they exhibit can be so funny (or so exasperating!) and they are all dear to us. We will keep you and your other kids in our prayers for awhile.

Hugs, Paulette! Bailey isn't suffering but you've taken on his pain. That's the sign of a well-loved pet.

I am very sorry for the loss of your beloved pooch.
Even on drugs, I couldn't read the whole thing...(sorry)
There seems to be such a rash of very sad situations here lately.
When I read this on FB yesterday, I went and spent some extra time with my little Pest.

Paulette, I'm so sorry you had to take that final step, but it was your last, loving gift to her. I know well how hard it is to decide when it is "time." Hugs to you and your daughter. I'm glad the last thing your "stinky dog" saw and felt was your loving presence.

Big hugs, Paulette, from me and Molly and Dinah. I never got to meet Bailey, but I know how much she meant to you and your granddaughter. If only people could do the last compassionate act of release from pain for their human friends, too, I would be far less worried about my much-later life. But it is anything but easy for those still here.

Remember all those good times.

I'm so sorry. When they come into our lives we know that much too soon they will leave us but how they enrich those years..
