Renaming Sophie to Trouble

Sophie strikes again. When I moved in I put those plastic bait ant thingies in various places making sure they were where Sophie or Buddy couldn't get them. I placed one WAAAAY back in the corner of the kitchen cabinet - you know, that place no one can reach. Since I'm in the process of painting the cabinet doors and replacing the hardware my cabinets one at a time, have no doors. The other night I come out of the office and find, you got it, pieces of the plastic all over the floor. Sophie (Trouble) had crawled all the way to the back of the cabinet and gotten the bait trap. Well, its about 9:30 pm so I call the vet's emergency number. Vet first tells me the bait in the traps aren't very bad (figures since the ants are thriving) and to give Sophie a tablespoon of salt and wait for her to throw up. Worked in about five minutes (who knew - I've learned something) and she was just fine. Never even appeared sick or upset stomach. I think she has a cast iron stomach.

So her new name is now Trouble or maybe Damn It Sophie.

Jed resembles that remark!

They sure do keep us on our toes, don't they. Glad she's okay.

Sure glad she's okay!

PS: How does one feed a dog a teaspoon of salt?

Mitch, I'm guessing Peaches would eat the salt like it's a treat. That said, I need to remember that's a method to get her to toss her cookies.

And I'm laughing at Sophie's new names. But mostly glad that she's ok,

Glad to hear Sophie is OK. Will keep that method in mind also, if necessary. The new place still seems to be a place of "discovery" for Sophie. Here's hoping she gets " bored" real soon. Linda

Never under estimate the ability of a dog to get into trouble. Glad she is OK.

Good thing you don't have rats instead of ants, or she'd be a gonner!

As with all animals, where there's a will, there's a way! Gotta watch them all the time!

As to how you give a tablespoon of salt, you jam the tablespoon as far back in her mouth as you can then you hold her mouth shut and stroke the throat until she swallows. I was so fast she didn't realize what was happening quick enough to wiggle away.

As for mice (no rats here) I use those live traps when I had them in the RV in New Mexico. Caught seven once and put them waaaaay across the campground near the tenting section. Sorry tenters. I've switched to the Home Defense liquid that you squirt around the outside of your house/rig. Seems to be working great. For whatever reason, Kerrville has ant problems everywhere in town. Those tiny little black ones.

Sophie and Buddy both are enjoying having a yard to roam around in, leash free. I'm enjoying just opening the door and NOT having to walk them all over the campground in all weather.

The fenced yard and open door policy is the main feature I miss about the stick house when I am traveling in the rig. Tell DIS, Damn It Sophie" that she just doesn't need to be that thorough about checking everything out. And regardless of what she claims we know that you feed her regular like..... :D
