Liz, how's that Bark-Off thing working out for you?
I bought one, lost it, bought another, found the first one.
It makes Abby freak out. She got so she wouldn't come into the house - I had to grab her and carry her.
I don't even turn it on. I just show it to her and she shuts up!

ON EDIT: It made her weird even if she wasn't barking and since there's no light to show it's working, I couldn't trust it with her strange reaction.

It sure does work for Molly! No more nervous barking in the truck when I leave her to go shopping, and no more barking in the trailer when she gets left behind! After I set the power to high from low, she never barked again! I did that to stop my daughter's huge dogs from barking, and Molly was there for that. Now, all I have to do is say, "Be careful!" while showing her the Barkoff unit, and I no longer even need to turn it on! But Molly is very sensitive to any correcting devices. I love my Barkoff!

Before you consider this you might want to read the reviews at Amazon.com where it has only a one star rating. There are several scary stories of what happened to many of the dogs whose owners bought this. Maybe some work but sounds like others stay on all the time or cause tremendous trauma to the dog when it is on. Here's a couple of reviews.
My frisky, intelligent dog was turned into a neurotic, whimpering animal within an hour of this product being turned on. She went to the farthest corner of the house and crawled into the corner to escape it's possible continuous sound.
How does a human know if it ever turns off? You can't hear it.
With Bark Off on, my dog would not even enter the house or be tempted with treats. This is a poor quality product. Money can't replace the damage this Bark Off has done to my pet. It was only turned on (without my knowledge) for a few evening hours. I had no idea what had traumatized my dog so. If you need a product like this, don't be cheap. Spend a few dollars and get one that at least lights up when on so YOU know it is working. By all means observe your dogs behavior and avoid tormenting them.
By the way, she never barks anymore.
Not even to greet me......
As a dog trainer I knew better than to buy this product. It was almost impossible to make the battery fit and my dog didn't notice anything when he barked. A few days later, I noticed a difference in my dog. He was beside himself, couldn't relax and wouldn't leave me alone. I couldn't figure out what was wrong with him until he let me know by jumping up and putting his paws on the kitchen table (he never does this) where the "Bark Off" was sitting.
This piece of garbage was emmiting a noice the whole time and driving my dog insane! When I shut it off my dog visably relaxed and laid down on his bed. Do not buy this product.

Seems to work for Roe. I only turn it on when leaving him in the RV. That's when he barks annoyingly...doesn't want to miss anything. I too wish it had a light so at least I'd know if it's working properly or if the battery is dead. If I knew where to find one that has a light, I'd buy it.
I took it in the back yard when the neighbor dogs were barking incessantly behind the 8 foot fence. Worked on them too.

Interesting info - we sell this at Petco and many people ask if it works, now I have some first hand reviews to share.

Speaking as one whose ears hurt at certain sounds - especially with my hearing loss - to the extent where I was going bonkers the other night to a noise at Amazon - had to tun off my hearing aids and cover my ears - it kind of scares me to think we're doing something similar to the dogs with the Bark Off. I'm glad it's working - but hope that it's not as major to them as certain noises are to me. I can understand that dog that BJ showed the review about. When does the Bark Off emit the sound? How does it know to only do it when the dog barks? Can other noises set it off? I'm just curious? And if we can't hear it - I would worry that it's only emitting the sound when it's supposed to.
It reminds me of when I tried a collar on Tips and Moxie to teach them to stay within certain boundaries. Moxie acted like I was killing her. Tips stopped dead, looked at me, shook from head to toe, then ran right through it. On the other side, he rolled over, then ran off like, hey, I don't like that, but you aint' gonna stop me now. Moxie wouldn't come near me for several hours. I know I wouldn't like to be shocked, so never used it again. Many others use similar systems today - and love them.
Not telling anyone not to use it - just to think about it. And, I agree with Liz, if they have one with a light, and someone knows about it - please post a link to it.

When I moved into this apartment, Molly got pretty "barky" and I didn't want to get in trouble so I bought a bark collar. I knew that she wouldn't like the "shock" type (she's a sensitive little soul) so I got her a spray collar - when she barks, it sprays a lemony scented mist at her face - It worked after one time. She never cowered or tried to get me to not put it on her, it was just part of the "I'm going to work" routine. I don't use it anymore - she's gotten used to the sounds here so doesn't bark unless someone knocks on the door. If I think she's getting "barky" again, I'll just put it back on her, no problem !
That's just another solution to the barking problem - a lot more expensive then the Bark Off though !
