I found the prettiest cat on-line at the local animal shelter today and went to look at her. She is a beautiful maine coon with white feet and a real sweetheart! I went home and told my roommate about her and she told me to go back and get her. I don't have the money for the apartment pet deposit but she said we can keep her without telling them here until I have the money. So I went shopping first to buy a bed, litter box, food, etc. for her and then went to pick her up. Because she is 5 (older kitty) I got her for $25. They put her in a cardboard box and I headed home. I was SO excited! Couldn't wait to get her home and get to know her!
As I was walking from the car to my apartment, she got restless and then the bottom of the box came open and she fell out and took off. I was able to grab her once but she scratched me and got away. Now I can't find her... I am just sick about this!!! My roommate helped me go look for her but no sign. There is a large overgrown canal behind us that she may have gone down into. I have been out twice now calling for her but she doesn't know me (other than being the mean lady who grabbed her!). My roommate made up some posters which I have put up all over around here. I am going out again to look until the sun goes down.
I am so sick about this! I just can't believe this is happening! She was just microchipped so hopefully someone will find her before a coyote does) and turn her in somewhere or call me. What should have been a really great day, has turned into a nightmare (for me and the kitty!).

Oh, my! I'm so sorry. Hopefully she will turn up soon. I'm sure her looks will get her noticed quickly. Good luck and keep us posted.

I got some canned food and put that out where I last saw her. There is a deep canal just out back that is all grown over with weeds and brush. I went down there to look for her and at one point I heard a cat meow and that was just below where I last saw her so I am thinking (and hoping) that was her. Unfortunately, I have to work from 9-5:30 tomorrow so won't have time to look for her other than first thing in the morning early.
I sure hope I can find her. I am so distraught over this! I just worry about her out there scared and alone. There is a pet hospital just down the street so I stopped there to let them know, in case someone finds her and brings her in.
Not gonna sleep very good tonight....

Check and see if there is a local animal aid that might lend you a trap. I don't know if there are skunks around there but I'm leery of setting traps at night now since I caught one. You could set one with some food and maybe she would come when you aren't there.

Oh you poor thing...I know you are sick about it. Putting food out is a good idea, and the trap is too. I'll be praying for a good outcome.

Oh, what a heartbreak. I hope the kitty stayed local and you can lure her back "home."

What a shame... they steal our hearts so fast... I do hope she comes back... or maybe someone will take her where they can scan the chip...

No luck yet...got up early this morning and walked around by the canal but didn't see or hear anything. It was really chilly out this morning, around 36 degrees. There was frost on the back window of my car.
All day at work, I couldn't stop thinking about that poor kitty out there alone and scared. Just breaks my heart! I called Animal Control to see about borrowing a live trap but they don't have any available. They did tell me about a hardware store that rents them for a week for $10, so I will go get one tomorrow morning. I also stopped at the shelter on my way home to let them know (again) about what happened. They felt bad too and will keep an eye out for her if someone brings her in.
I am going back out shortly to look again. It is dark out but I will take my flashlight with and maybe I can see her eyes reflecting from the light somewhere. Tomorrow morning, I will go back down into the canal and look.
I just feel so sad.....
