After watching a lot of his shows, I don't think it is so much that he understands dogs, but more that he understands how humans are mostly responsible for how dogs behave. Most of his shows he teaches the humans how to react/teach their dogs. He doesn't teach dogs how to react to their humans. JMHO.

he is pretty well trained as we speak! But I am 'customizing' him to my ways. He is a very eager and fast learner!
