Today was the big day for me and Moxy! It was sunny this morning but very windy. I dressed warm which helped a lot (altho could have used ear muffs!).
Moxy was a good boy all day! He was wearing is red bandana which was a big hit! He just loves all the activity, dogs, kids, attention, etc! After awhile he was getting very tired but kept his eyes open just enough so not to miss anything. I couldn't get him to do his trick because he was so distracted. I carry him in a large soft purse so he could snuggle down inside when the wind was bothering him, or stick his head out to see what was going on. A lot of the time tho, he wanted to be out and on the ground checking out all the smells and meeting dogs and kids. Like usual, we (he) got tons of attention! Lots of hugs and kisses and photo ops for him! At one point on the walk, we met up with a gal who also had a ferret. While we were chatting and letting our ferrets get aquainted, someone else came over with 2 ferrets, then another couple came over with a whole stroller full of ferrets (7 of them). So we had this large ferret GTG and attracted a lot of people coming over to meet them all and take pics! It was really fun! I only saw two other ferrets (later) at the whole Walk, so it was really unusual that we were all at the same place at the same time! Some people even remembered Moxy from last year. So here are some of the photos...

Fun pictures, Barbie! I can attest to the fact that Boston Terriorists give the bestest kisses! I get them for free several times a day! ;)

It says a lot for his temperment that he tolerates all the sights and sounds and strange animals and people so well. Looks as if he doesn't know a stranger.

Great pictures and what a fun day with so many different people and animals. It looks like it must have been a very successful fund-raiser. Hope so. I miss doing the Walk for Animals - was in it several times for my humane society in WI. And what a great way to have fun and help, too.

Loved the pictures. The rabbit in the stroller brought back memories. When my niece was younger, she would put her rabbit in her doll stroller and walk around the block. Had to give credit to that rabbit, what patience, he would let her do just about anything to him. :D Thanks again for sharing the pics. Looks like a really fun afternoon. Linda

Last year they had a record crowd and from what I could tell, this year there were lots more people and dogs than last year, so I think it was very successful! I will let you know how much they raised later this week. Last year they made it to 1 million dollars! That all goes for the animals at 5 different locations around the Twin Cities. I used to volunteer with the Wildlife Rehabilitation and Release program and they have an intake room at the Humane Society headquarters where they take in injured and/or abandoned wildlife brought in by the public, treat them and then transport them from there to rehabbers around the area. The WRR paid their own vet techs to work there, but now the Humane Society pays them, so that is a big financial help to the WRR group!

I used to use Moxy for a therapy pet at my mom's nursing home. Even as a baby, he was always very calm and gentle when people held him. My mom had alzheimers and would love it when I brought him in and put him in her arms. He just sat there like a good boy even tho he was a wild thing at home! He seemed to sense why he was there and that he needed to be still. I can't hold him for two seconds at home here but when we go out somewhere he is as calm as can be. I took him to an outdoor church service last summer for the Blessing of the Animals, and he layed in my lap the whole time! (He's tearing my living room apart as I write this!!). I wanted to get him certified as an official therapy pet but haven't found any organization that will accept ferrets. I am sure I could still bring him to nursing homes anyways with their permission.

Here is a link to the AHS Walk For Animals website. There are more fun photos on there to look at, including one of me and Moxy!
