BANDIT!!!!!!! you little sneak, NO!

Postby avalen » Sat Aug 16, 2008 9:44 am

I'm cleaning out the fridge, (noticed it quit day before, but thats another topic)
and had the trash can there, pitching all the stuff from the freezer too as everything
that had thawed was of course questionable. Ate what I could yesterday, but two
packs of bologna I was not going to eat. This bologna had the red strip around you
always have to pull off when you make a sandwich, well the dogs are all 3 watching
me do this and I'm paying attention really, I was! but somehow when I stood up and
took a breather I noticed Bandit was gone. Quickly looked upstairs on the bed, no
Bandit, door was open so I looked on the porch, no Bandit, looked in his kennel,
ah HA! little sneak snagged the two packs of bologna and had quickly wolved down
one pack and was going for the second. I grabbed it away, and also snatched the
baggie from the other pack, pulled him out and searched his blankets for the red
strips from around the bologna. Nothing! I remembered reading in one of my dog
forums that you could use hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting in a dog. Looked
it up for the dosage, 1 tsp per 10 lb weight of dog. So I give him two tsps via
turkey baster cause I had no syringe and waited, 15 minutes and nothing, message
said I could do it again, so I did. Went out in the yard and he's walking around doing
the lip licking thing and 5 minutes later, up it comes. So glad the peroxide worked,
those red strips of stuff certainly could have caused some intestinal problems and
cause me a vet bill. I didn't want to take the chance that they would pass without
problems. The mess of course in the yard is cleaned up and Bandit now is laying in
the recliner feeling sorry for himself. Me?, I'm feeling quite proud of myself and no
he did not get a cookie afterwards. Maybe later.

That never would have occurred to me. Dogs are such little sneaks!

That is so funny! But scary too!! My Mom's dog got into the chocolate kisses one day and paniced!
Glad the peroxide worked!! Learned a new lesson today :D

the peroxide only works on dogs, you can't use it on cats. I was also told you can only
give the dog two doses and if that doesn't work then you do need to go to the vet
for something stronger to induce the vomiting. It was also noted to check with
poison control to see if it was safe to induce since some stuff is caustic, but of
course I knew what I was trying to get out so that issue was not a factor to me,
but also know ladies that poison control will charge you for their information and
they don't care if your dog is dieing, they want your debit card number.

I'm glad Bandit is ok, glad you knew about the hydrogen peroxide (I didn't) and now I probably need to buy some - just for the "in cases" that we all know happen when you own dogs (or cats, or any animals). Glad to know that it's not to be used for cats, too.

Glad Bandit is okay. My Sassy is also a very quick thief. Don't know how many sandwiches I've lost by getting up to get a drink out of the frig. She's really quick and then looks so innocent. Thanks for the tip on peroxide.

another thing I do with hydrogen peroxide, (since were on the subject) I
put it in a spray bottle and it makes it easier to apply to wounds and such.
It also is highly recommended (heard this on the news) to spray it on
counter tops as opposed to bleach for sanitizing.
