My fault

I know so many of you are animal lovers and some of you will be mad at me when I share what happened yesterday. Went for my daily walk on the beach. Eddie (my dog) Loves the beach, to run and explore so I usually let him off leash so he can enjoy himself. Met a woman walking and she asked me if I had seen the whale. A 48 ft sperm whale had washed up on shore and people were flocking to see it. I immediately turned around to head in that direction, still chatting with the woman. I looked around for Eddie and before a fully formulated thought that there was an exceptional amount of car traffic and maybe I should leash him, he ran right into a car or under or something. I ran to him and tried to check him for injuries and he bit the heck out of me. It was chaos for a while with me bleeding all over the place, sand and people. I had no shoes, no wallet, nothing. The couple whose car hit him were animal lovers also and we determined that he didn't seem to have internal injuries and wasn't bleeding so we could try and move him. They drove me to the local vet and they were awesome! Eddie has a broken pelvis and needs surgery. The vet says nobody around here does that kind and referred me to a c linic in San Antonio. The vet was concerned about my bites as well and her receptionist worked the phones trying to nget me seen by a dr.We had to file an animal control report but since I am both victim and owner he could be home quarantined. After runnning back to the RV park to get my wallet with insurance info the dr office wouldn't see me because they're not on my plan . Called my insurance co and found an urgent care center in Corpus. The wonderful couple, Roger and Joyce, assured me that they would love to take me there so several hours later I had a tetanus shot, and scrip for antibiotic. One of the ladies who lives here full time wantsme to call a clinic in Corpus because she's sure they could do the surgery and that would be infinitely more convenient. So far this am can't get them on the phone but still trying. So go ahead and yell at me about how he should have been on a leash but know that none of you can make me feel worse than I already do about my part in it. Thank God for all the kind people here though.

Kellie, what a horrible experience. Hopefully, you'll both heal quickly and as painlessly as possible.
Prayers and hugs for you both.

Kellie, I know that your beating yourself up over this but don't. We all have taken our turns at letting our furbabies run loose off leash. And yes accidents happen. As horrible and sometimes devastating as they can be they do happen. I use to take Shade to a large cemetery to run loose. I thought it just fine as very, very seldom were there any cars and no one drives fast in a cemetery anyway. Well I looked up just in time to see her chasing a fox. Tell me that couldn't have turned out badly. Lost one Pom cause she literally jumped over top of the X boyfriend out the drivers window at another dog and never even made it to the ground. When she jumped out she was in the air right in front of another vehicle. They never stopped, just kept on going.
So yeah your feeling guilt bad enough to feel crushed. Accidents happen, take it easy on yourself and rejoice that after surgery he will be sore and buggered up for a bit. But he will still be there, is still your companion and friend.
Cheer up GF. {{{hugs}}}

Kellie, we all know that you are beating yourself up and feeling guilty about this, but things happen in the blink of an eye. Hopefully you will be able to get Eddie to the vet in SA and he will heal up nicely. After all, he's the "Wonder Dog", right! Will you be able to drive with your hand bandaged?

So sorry to hear about Eddy! You were only doing what you thought would make his experience on the beach more fun for him. Because of the unusual circumstances, there was just more traffic than usual that you weren't aware of. These things happen! Just forgive yourself, get your dog the help he needs, heal yourself up, and move on. I like to say there are no mistakes, only learning experiences. Just be grateful that he is still here and you can love on him for a long time to come!

So sorry to hear about this, ... but as others have already said, please don't beat yourself up any more. You already have enough. These things happen, sad to say. Hugs to you and a gentle pet to Eddy.

Kellie, my heart goes out to you. As Tina said, that is why they are called accidents. Spit happens in an instant. Better now to concentrate on getting yourself and Eddie all better and then you can put it behind you. Here's wishing you both the best.

" Thank you' she says all choked up. You all are wonderful. Had the second opinion, no charge, and his recommendation is also the clinic in San A. His pain meds have kicked in and I got a syringe at the pharmacy where I filled my scrip for antibiotics so I can force water in him so he won't dehydrate. Made the appt for Thursday, Feb 11. He will go in and see the doc in the morning, have surgery in the afternoon, stay overnight 1 night and be released Fri morning, barring unforseen complications. Working on whether to drive rig up there and still have to either fight San A traffic to clinic, or rent car OR just rent car here for 2 days and spend 1 night in hotel in San A. Leaning towad 2nd option at this point, if I can get it all worked out. Unless there are any sisters in San A that want to put me up for a night
Seriously, thank you, thank you, thank you - i love you all

Kellie, I'm in Kerrville, about an hour drive from San Antonio. If you'd like, you're welcome to my sofa while Eddies in the hospital. My phone is 830 285-0531. I'll even loan you a dog to cuddle at night.

Oh, Kelpie, I'm so sorry for poor Eddie, and for you in your guilt and trauma. But these things happen. People criticize me for being uber-protective of my pups. It comes from hard experience and I have lost beloved pets due to my own lapses. But your Eddie survived and I know you are grateful for that. I hope your hand heals and all the tendons and such aren't damaged.

so sorry to hear of this, and like everyone said, Don't beat yourself up over it, it was
an accident, thank god I'm reading you can fix him with surgery rather than something
worse. Now, about your bite, Bandit nailed me once too, many years ago when he was
suddenly trying to take advantage of a certain young female and I grabbed him off.
My arm was so sore, for the longest time, and it took quite awhile to heal too. But
it did, and keep it clean and open. I flushed mine with hydrogen peroxide.
You both deserve a big (((((((HUG))))))))
