Nicky had a guest

I may have spent most of Christmas holiday without human company, but Nicky had his first ever guest. Her name is Lizzie and she stayed with us while her human went to New Orleans for the holidays. This is a major milestone as he was very defensive around other dogs when he first came to live with me. Thankfully he has mellowed a lot.

Three years of drought followed by a year of flooding rains have left the fenced area of my yard without grass - think mud to be tracked in by furry little feet. I got 5 bales of straw just before guest arrived and spread a very thick layer across yard. They had a ball playing in it.

And there were constant chipmunk hunts, especially in the drain pipes (they actually trapped one in a pipe then proceeded to try to dig up the pipe - that was a mess).

Nicky has plenty of toys but never plays with them. Lizzie got into the toys, then he became interested. Thought she might have succeeded in teaching him to play but since she left, he is ignoring the toys again.

They did keep me entertained over the holidays. Nicky is to stay with Lizzie and her human while I'm gone to FL next week.

The interaction is one of the reasons some of us have multiple dogs.....even if a few of us go beyond sensible..... They do look like they enjoyed and tolerated each other well.

I think Nicky really enjoyed his company! He started doing things he's not done before. I'm sure he had a ball! Hope that continues next week when they meet up again. Thanks for sharing.

I'm sorry if everyone else already knows this - is Nicky the furry one? If so, he looks kind of like my Eddie

Yes, Nicky is the furry, almost always dirty one. Everything sticks to that hair, including the straw.
(See also "Dirty Dog" posted on 9/8/09 under pets.)
They do look alike.
Know Nicky is some part terrier/ likes to dig & terrorize chipmunks, etc; he was a rescued dog and eats anything he can catch in spite of being well fed now that he has a permanent home. If the toys ran so he could chase, he would like them better.

Nickie is Adorable..... glad they had a good time playing...Unfortunally with my Boston she is very t0y aggressive...so having doggie company is out of the question at this point... I may decide to foster on of these days ....
